Up to this step, yes:

...except you would send the datalog file to Xcal3, not Xcal2. After this, you're on your own since I don't own an Xcal3.

Reason behind this is because my car has to a dyno emmisions ever year I have to go to my tunner and have him change a couple things everytime. If I had a programmer I could just do it myself. Thanks for the input.....by the way I already put my 24#injectors back in....the car runs like the first day I had it tuned...injectors were clogged

If the Xcal3 will work on 94/95s, I would get that. Give LaSota racing a call.

1998 Mark VIII LSC
LiveLink 6.5
Xcal2
followed the instructions in page 1 of this sticky to set up data capture, but am having two redundant problems:
1)after naming and describing a DLF (datalog setup file), then successfully adding it to the handheld xc2, then plugging it into the obd2 on my car, and enabling/positioning the datalog items (commands) to be measured, I get a message "invalid ecm type"...no data capture to be done
---
Problem #2) after adding the DLF to the xc2, and trying to set up (enable and positiion) data capture (with xc2 still connected to my PC) the description/name of the DLF shows up on the xc2 (ex. BASICS), but none of the commands (datalog items) are displayed to be enabled or positioned...only the name of the DLF shows up when I choose to set up data capture!
-----
I was told by my tuner, that when adding the DLF (datalog set up file) from the PC software to the xc2, to check the PIDS box, but NOT to bullet any of the EEC-V types, that I should leave that blank. I've tried leaving it blank, as well as choosing 112k EEC V, and 216K EEC V.
AAAAARRGHH!
-----
Right ECU ID?
when configuring datalog items to strategy, I first have to enter my car's ECU ID (strategy)...based on this photo, is the fifth character the number zero? or is it the letter 'O'?

what I found out was I needed to NOT bullet/choose an ECU type (ex. 112k EEC-V), and I needed to uncheck the PIDs only box...
---
now I need to figure out how to capture/ save, and import datalog files to my pc to make use of it

Out of curiosity, did we ever get a definitive answer on which tuners work with the 94-95 v8's?

1995 Thunderbird LX - 130,000 miles. Purchased for $350 from the bad side of town.
2015 Fiesta SE - 24000 miles. Purchased after my Trailblazer set itself ablaze...

all I can find is a x4 which is aggravating because I do know I need a good tune on my cougar after the intake upgrade and the different rear end. I went with a 3.10 in the rear

If it's a tunable EEC is the question, I think.

There were certain codes that weren't tunable; IDK why.

I'd call Don Lasota, tell him what catch code you have, and that you want to buy a tune from him. His base tune is excellent, as many members can confirm.

If you don't want to buy a new tuner from him, I'm sure he'll understand, as we have 20 year old cars.

If it can be tuned, an Xcal2 should work; otherwise, you have to use a chip, which Don can sell you.

He's 96vert here, but he's not around much anymore, like most folk.

'preciate it. Just saw the for sale ad here with a flip chip installed on a '95 ECU, so I'm checking on that now. Not sure how its tuned or what upgrades it was tuned for, so it might not even work with what I have planned for the car. We'll see though.
