They said they're the 9007 bulb but are (were) out of stock the last time I checked.

cant be 9007's, i have a set of those already and the ones here look more like an H1. Maybe i'll just order a set of H1's and dremel off the excess stuff that i dont need and see if i can get it to work.

EDIT: Ordered a set of 4300k H1's from vvme.com, should be here sometime this week or early next. Will update with news once ive got them in. If i can get these to work... 55w HID's are on the horizon

At least, the 9007 from that particular site; not necessarily a "real" 9007 or H1. I don't even know what to think anymore...

hmm... maybe dual projectors
Thank you so much XR7-4.6 :P I was about to buy new 94/95 headlight housings and throw some Silverstar 9007's in there....but now I think i'll get the grand marquis headlight housings and the BI-XENON kit....and I think I might sacrifice the inner parking light bulbs for dual projectors....it's a possibility.

Update on my end...

A while ago I noticed my driver's side projector was out of focus a bit, so I took it out and messed with the bulb placement. Now instead of having it fully seated into the projector, I have it recessed about 1/8" and I've noticed the light fills up the area below the cutoff much more fully, rather than having a distinct focal point at the center. I need to do this to the passenger side as well to get things evened out but I'm too lazy in cold weather to do it now.

^ crap... cant do this with the OE setup like mine - would like to see some new shots against your garage or steet to see the difference.

Got my new bulbs from VVME yesterday (H1 4300k). Looks like im going to be able to make them work but they will require some mods. I will probably have to dremel off most of the excess plastic. I will take some pics if i have time to do it this afternoon.

i've spent a few hours trying to polish my lense to get rid of the issues to no avail. there are some pretty good dings that aren't going to come out.

I'll be saving up for new housings, and possibly an OEM projector swap still.

post up about those bulbs, I'm all ready to try something new again! lol

Left the dead platform for good. It's nice finally having a car you can buy stuff for!

What were you using to polish the lens?? Did you try the Meguires stuff that I recommended?

What an epic fail today was... lol

I was able to machine down the bulbs and get rid of the excess plastic to make them fit, in fact, the fit was quite nice and colour was WAYYYY different.

However, i suppose all of that plastic is there for insulation or something because shortly after i hooked them up i noticed the right side not working. Hmmmm... pulled everything apart to find a loose connection maybe? then i heard the arcing in the other housing. The bulb was grounding itself to the housing so I guess I dremeled off too much plastic lol.

Anyways, ripped the bulbs out REAL quick (ended up dropping one too, shattering the glass) and I also fried one of my ballasts in the process, thankfully I have a few extras.

It was worth a shot and i am still going to continue working toward finding out what kind of bulbs these are.

I used meguiars plastic cleaner and plastic polish. theres no way these are going to come out of the lens, they appear to be rock chips.. you can catch a toothpick in them. the good parts of the lens are crystal clear now, but that one rock chip is messing it all up.

i gotta get my front end back in shape and then i need to get the audio into shape, then I'll come back to worrying about the headlights. they're still approximately 7 zillion percent better than halogen no matter what still!

I have finally had time to compare this "projector" kit to my actual D2S HID. And they do seem a bit off. I know about the 48 hour "burn in" period, so I will try to be working on that, having the lights set up here in my garage on a timer and i'll have them cycle on and off just like I would be driving my car at night for a few hours, and we'll see how the color and such appear when we get closer to finishing the burn it period.

As for the comparison, I somewhat suspect this projector kit to be the same "hid headlight kit" you see everywhere. Just in this kit is a projector, and a modified headlamp socket to fit. Because when I compare this kit to my D2S bulb, the D2S bulb has a much smoother start-up, and ignition. As for the projector kit, it's just a mere off-beat here and there... I guess a durability test is really want we need. So lets see how far and how good these last.

I did have a projector that my father got my from his work out of the salvage bin, but unfortunately it's a little to large and bulky to fit into the TBIRD housings. I have done my research, and will soon be getting some acura / infinity projector's, around 2 inch one's, and I will try and see about retrofitting those into my old housing.

As for now, I am going to install these, as everyone here has agreed that these are FAR more superior than any regular halogen!! I will be working on an actual projector retrofit within the next coming months, and will report back.

Here's a handy link for explaining D2R and D2S bulbs.

Still nothing about bulbs from the manufacturer. However, some interesting news.

I am able to place an order for a complete kit direct from them (the manufacturer) at a price quite a bit cheaper than the cheapest of these kits found on ebay. The catch is that there I have to place an order for a minimum of five kits and the shipping is killer (the shipping and customs duties on five of these is as much as two complete kits). However I would still be able to sell for less than those found on ebay. If anybody is seriously considering doing this retrofit, let me know and if enough people show interest, I can place an order and sell them for ~$135 shipped (possibly less if I can find a cheaper shipping option), which would still be only a few dollars above the cost I'd pay per unit shipped to me.

At the time I placed my order, the cheapest kit on ebay was $145, which is what I paid. I am not sure if I can request variants in angel eye color and bulb temperature in the lot of however many I order, however I have asked about that and any cheaper shipping options and should receive an answer soon.

I'm down for another one, possibly even two! I'd like to try this on my father's Nissan Pathfinder, and also on his TBIRD. So there's 2 kits put down for me already. Let me know if this is looking like a successful group buy!! We'd only need about 3 more (depending if you are ordering another one or not Brandon :P) Keep me posted, I'm subscribed to this thread haha.

I've also been noticing that these can be installed in multiple applications. So it's just depending on if the projector will fit and mount up correctly in other headlights. Thats why I'm wanting to try this on my father's Pathfinder. Get rid of those 9004 bulbs!

Hmmm... Maybe this would also work on my mother's 01 Monte Carlo. I'm going to do some investigating!

Yeah, I'd be getting at least one more kit for a friend.

They told me that they'd try to accommodate me if I had variance between kits but that they prefer to keep them the same. So I'll lay it down this way:

Kits will be 9004/9007 harness with 6,000k bulbs and will include ballasts, unless you have a strong preference otherwise. Price will be $135 each, including shipping to the continental United States. If you plan on more than one let me know and I'll see if I can get you a quote with better shipping.

As of now I do not know if the price does down if I order more than five. I'll inquire if it comes to that.

Hmm, really ok. Cause I know I would most likely want to order a different adapter or two and also difference K temperature's. $135.00 is only a $10.00 difference from what I've seen for them on eBay now too. Is that the lowest discount they could offer..

I guess those are my only two questions.. I'm probably looking for like 2 or 3 kits also too, just to let you know.

I'll see what I can do about price but it depends on how much I can ship them for. At this point I can't guarantee a whole lot, unfortunately. My unit cost is $80 each with ballasts, but the shipping for a set of five is $160. That makes the unit cost $112 and I expect US shipping to be in the neighborhood of $10-$15, leaving me at $122-$127 in cost. So as you can see I'm not making much. I can get a set without ballasts for $58 and those are $119 to ship for 5, making unit price $81.80, so I could sell those for $100-$105 depending on shipping. What temps/harness would you need?

They don't appear to be selling any kits with projectors. I'm thinking that it's the projectors that are making the biggest difference in the lighting effectiveness for our application, moreso even than the brighter bulbs.

For a set of three with ballasts I might be able to do $125 - $130 shipped each. I need to sit down and do some rates research yet. Any preference to angel eyes color? Here is what they say about colors:

I will be going with the white angel eyes.... I think you would get in trouble with having the blue angel eyes, since blue light's on the front of vehicles is strictly reserved for emergency vehicles.. at least here in CA it is..

^^ the blue is hardly noticeable when the projectors are on, the only time you can see them is if you are up close looking down at them or maybe from the side at a stop light or something but even then ... who is looking right?

When the lights are off the blue is BRIGHT though lol

I have had absolutely ZERO luck finding replacement bulbs for these projectors. So I may just order a whole new kit. Maybe i'll use the old one for HID reverse lights lol.

Cops where I live. I know some people with BMW's, who like to customize their angel eyes.. I've seen Red one's, Blue ones, White, ect... I know the white are the most effective, and I know of a story where one of my buddies got pulled over in the in n out parking lot, (he wasn't even driving, just sitting with his halo's on eating). Got a $40. dollar ticket for the blue angel lights.... Cops around here, or should I say Alameda Sheriff, sometimes get bored at night and LOVE to pick on people... Trust me I know. lol

No replacement bulbs yet huh.. Didn't someone have luck grinding down an H1 bulb or something of that nature? I'm not sure how that came out though, i'll have to scroll back a page and see if I can find that. Also, weren't some found at the manufacturer who sold these kits for like $18. bucks each?

When I asked them about replacement bulbs they said they sold them for $18, but were out of stock. The last time I asked about them (a week or so ago) they said they were still out of stock.

That was me, and it was an epic fail that cost me one of my ballasts... i dont want to talk about it lol.

Terminator found those bulbs for 18$ and rest assured, i'll be ordering a few sets once he confirms that they are in stock.

hmm.. I am determined to get this bulb situation figured out.. I really want to adapt an D2S to this! I will just have to lock myself in the garage with that bulb, projector, and all my tools and see what I come up with, lol!

As far as the "group buy" goes I've got at least two kits on my end, most likely three. So combine those with KorpseofDeath's two/possibly three and we're over the minimum order threshold.

Sweet! Keep my updated. Hopefully we can order these before the end of January?? Also mark me down for 2 kits. I'll skip on the third one for now, since time and money will be a slight issue.

The two I would like is
1. 9004 4500k
2. 9007 4500k

Also, I know different sellers have different Kelvin color's, so around 4300K or 4500K would be fine for me. As long as it's not any lower than 4300K, (I don't want yellow foglights, but BRIGHT WHITE light, and I don't want anything over 5000K, which will start into tinting into the blue Kelvin color, if you know what I mean.)

Okay, I think they're 4300k. I'm going to start a group buy thread in the for sale section to a) keep this thread a little less cluttered, b) possibly cultivate more interest and c) help keep track of quantity.

No update on bulbs, unfortunately...

Here is the link to the for sale thread: HID Retrofit kit with projectors GP
