Projector Headlights

Im buying parts to do my front end conversion. I bought some 97 headlights and am looking into mounting projectors into these and painting the background of the headlight the same color as the car. As I was browsing ebay for projectors I ran across this post....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H1-H7...item20ad1cf714

Now I understand everything that comes in the kit, and I understand how everything works. I guess what I am looking at is other opinions. I see I dont have to do any drilling, just separation of the headlight... ballasts and bulbs included. This almost seems to good to be true! Thanks for any input.

Hmmm... interesting find. Much cheaper than the $450+ kits I've seen thus far! If you get one of these, let us know how the installation goes - take lots of pictures! I'm very interested in doing this myself if it works out for you.

Ordered. The seller responded very quick! I ended up getting 6000k temp bulbs and white angel eyes. We will see how they are in 5 -7 days I guess!

I have seen these retrofit kits done on a number of cars actually. Found them a little cheaper than that however locally and they look pretty decent. Good luck and provide progress pics please

I did a little looking myself last night and found several other kits that had projectors and bulbs with the harness - but no ballasts - for under a hundred bucks. I'm not sure exactly what I'll end up buying; I need to look a bit more.

Tonight I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=120472438670

Which, after carefully examining pictures on both listings, appears to be exactly the same product for sale by the other seller but for $40 less.

It also appears to be the same thing as is offered here, for three times as much!!!

Thats really funny. I have been looking at the exact same one's because it is cheaper then the 400 Kit I have been looking at for the past year. Please let me know how the cut off is, and take pics! This would very much influence me to buy these!

Looking at those kits they are a knock-off/counterfeit of Hella's 2200 series. Cause its identical to what is in my SC.

Well I was just too impatient and anxious to wait, so I ordered a kit from the "OMG" seller; 6000k with blue angel eyes. We'll see what happens!

*waiting impatiently* ... definitely a mod i am considering if this turns out good.

is that just a plug and play kit? no drilling or dremeling? just bolt the projector lens inside of the housing and you are good to go?

As far as I know the only thing that needs modification is that the shroud that goes around the bulb has to come out so the projector will fit in its place.

I'm also curious if you could use other bulbs too. I got some DSR's from a Porche's that i'd like to put in there. I'm thinking of just ordering one too, but my paycheck it every two weeks, unfortunately this week is not one of the winners. I got two spare headlights in my garage right now to i'm ready for this experiment too =D

Can you tell by the wiring diagram how the angel eyes are wired? Do they come on with the driving lights or...?

The angel eyes can be wired any way you wanted, they come off the controls as separate wires, I think I'm going to wire mine up to a switch.

I did run into a little problem, the projector is a tad to big for the headlight housing. I'm going to have to do a little trimming to get to fit just right. I plan on painting the chrome background the same color as the car since the reflection isn't needed anymore, I think it will make it look more unique. Separating the headlights was more work than I thought, cracked a lot of plastic, luckily none of the lens cracked, going to have to super glue an putty em up.

Lucky for me I've had the headlight lenses apart from the housings before so getting them open is going to be a breeze. From what I could tell the little shroud that surrounds the bulb just slides out.

Too big for the housing, in what way, exactly? In the third from last pic it looks like it just fits, might be pointed up just a tad - but that should easily be corrected with the stock alignment screws.

oh ****!! damn that looks great man!! did you just dremel out a bit of the bottom to get the projector in there nice and snug?

how did you get the lens out anyways? heat in oven or something to loosen glue?

The third from the last pic does make it look like it sits in the housing nice and snug, but with it set in there like it is in the picture the lens will not go on. I'm not to worried about the aiming of it because you can always fix that with the alignment screws like you said. Hopefully if I trim it correctly I will get the lens to fit correctly and the projector to aim down a tad more.

Headlight in the oven for about 15 minutes at 200 degrees did it just fine for my headlight separation and yes the shroud for the 9007 bulb in the headlight just slides out with a little persuasion.

More pics to come when I can get to the shop and get some painting and trimming done!

As far as not fitting, does it just need to be recessed further into the housing, IE enlarge the hole at the rear and push them back? I'm not exactly sure when my set will arrive so I'm trying to gather as much info and be as prepared as I can be. I'll probably tackle this next Tues/Wed when I'm not working.

Cutting a larger hole in the rear or the housing is not the answer. I'm just going to take a little off the bottom of the projector ring. Shouldn't be too hard to do and I don't think I'll need to take that much.

Ah, I see. I was hoping that I wouldn't need to make any "permanent" alterations to my housings if ever I had to revert back to halogens...

Bump. They look sweet inside the housing. Any light pictures? I'd like to see how the cut off is and in general how the light shines, and see the true quality of the projector housing.

You would be correct . Once I get them all mounted up correctly I'm going to try and hook them outside of the car to make sure they work before I put it all together. I will for sure put up pictures of them!

Dangit...

I ordered my set last Sunday and asked the seller to give me tracking info when it was sent. I hadn't heard anything as of yesterday so I sent them an e-mail asking what was up. Their reply just came:

hi..
tomorrow i give you the tracking number ..
and i just call the post office ..
regards
sarah

Here I was expecting to get it tomorrow and by this it looks like it hasn't even been shipped yet!

I guess that's what I get for wanting to save $35.
