Keyless entry module

The keyless entry in my Tbird has been been working intermittently the last few months. The range got really poor, now it has stopped working completely. I have tried two new keyfobs and neither are working, the module will enter program mode but wont program and keyfobs anymore.

I am assuming something is just burned out or shot in it.

Anyway, will any keyless module work? Or are they different between the years? I found a few on ebay and they all look the same, even the lincoln mark 8 ones up to 96 appear the same.

Any other idea as to why it is not working would be welcome too.

Well going off that like you posted Nate, they are the same. I would expect it to be since the pin out looks the same.

I bought one that;s close to the same year, so I will find out.

Don't toss your old one either. The 90's tech is repairable... resistors, capacitors, etc...

At least you can do some board level work on the stuff from the 90's!

Take the old one apart, and post hires pix somewhere; I can help.

It needs more current when it programs, so that narrows it a lot.

The large print number is the door code for the car; if you add the switches, it will work, even on the 97-97. (which didn't get door switches...)

I'll take some pictures after I replace it. First thing I did when this issue started was take it out and clean the contacts. I also pulled the board and did a visual for any burnt components. Everything looks good so IDK what could have went bad. It's like it wont pickup any signal from the remotes, everything else on it works fine. From what I understand it has the interior lighting and the door lock relays contained in it.

Go to carandtruckremotes.com. They'll sell you a new one for under $30.00, or a battery for your current remote. I've bought two remotes for my 95 LX. They were both NOS and came with programming instructions.

Take the box open, and look for solder joints that look like this: (on a smaller scale, hopefully.)

Image stolen for a good use, lol.

So I got one off of ebay from a 93 Cougar. I installed it, right away my remotes paired with it and it works properly. So that was an easy "fix" you could say. The going price on ebay is about 35$ for a module, so if this happens to anyone else its not hard or expensive to replace it.

Attached are some pictures of the old board that is no longer reading the remotes. Double checked and don't see any bad solder joints. So maybe something just went bad on the board? Either way I'm done messing with it, I've fiddled with the thing too much for my liking already.

If you want to send it to me, I'll send it back if I can fix it.

I'll post drawings and analysis.

It's nice to have keyless entry again!

From what I found they are all the same for MN12's and FN10 (up to 96). The 97-98 Mark has a different setup.

If you want to have the module Grog6... feel free to PM you address and I can mail it to you. TBH I was just going to toss it but I don't mind mailing it out if you are interested in checking it out.

'96 T-Bird keyless entry problem

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue so easily. I have a much different problem on my '96 Tbird. When I push the wrong button on the remote, I think it is the "right" button, the door lock actuator goes into what sounds like a repeated lock/unlock sequence. Eventually it unlocks/locks. My car has the factory installed security system. Has anyone heard of this before? If so, how was it fixed?
