Simply put, buy an optima battery, upgrade the Big 3, and be done wih it! There are better things to spend over a $100 on besides an almost useless cap.

I have a 1000 ca battery and have no troubles with my rinky dink Alpine MRP-F240(40*4 RMS) and Kenwood 728S amps(100 RMS *2, unbridged btw) and using 2 12" Kicker Comp VRs. I have a feeling the Kenwood is lying but these #'s are strait from the manuals. I don't need a stinkin cap. I have enough sound and power to be dangerous, I'm happy with what I have, I won't be upgrading. Sloth92 makes a good point. Save your cash for something that lasts and don't be stupid buying and blowing components.

Remember KISS. Keep it simple stupid. In my case I kept everything relatively low powered.

Sub's weak. Only 500W RMS, 1000W max.
My KMX-12 in a Probox easily outdoes that.

Needs more stall.

Ok I'm thinking about getting a new sub and don't know what to get. I currently have a infinity 1252 reference series and it sounds decent with the trunk closed(inside the car and out) but when the trunk is open it sounds like crap and it rattles. I have it in a ported box if it matters. My amp is capable of 850w rms and this sub just isn't using the potential of the amp, I pretty much have the amp as low as possible to not burn up the coil in the sub which I have done in the past with some cheap subs that were rated much higher then they could handle. I want to upgrade to something with approximately the same rms as the amp but I don't want to spend a fortune on a sub. The Jl w7 are just to costly for me but I want something that will last. The infinity has been much more reliable even at the lower rating then the previous subs I have owned(power acoustic) does anyone have any suggestions that are a decent price that would give me a little more thump for the buck? Thanks, Jon.

alpine r's are a good choice and can be picked up rather cheap. sound good in ported applications as well.

hollow front cats, 3rd cat still there, no resonator, replaced by a single 40 series flowmaster, 2 3"x18" tips out back. screamin demon coil packs, mallory pro wires, motorcraft platinum plugs. intake resonator delete.

what about tubes? are they worth a @W#$#? I have a box with two pioneer IMPP 12's, and it has always done a nice job for me, but I don't like how much trunk space it takes up. I actually don't need anything that hammers, I just want more bottom end than a stock system will give me. maybe changing the rears to components will give me an extra bit of bottom?

Phoenix gold RSdc's 10's or 12's, are an excellent value for the dollar and can handle more than the rated wattage on them.

Mods: The usual stuff... 3.73 Gears, J-mod, catless mandrel 2.5" true duals, Marauder Converter, Eibachs, Xcal2 and Phoenix Gold Audio, chrome 18's, etc. etc..

For what you are looking for tubes are just fine. Components will 'sound' better in the lower frequencies but rarely give you any 'bump'. There is nothing wrong with tubes but tubes don't put out enough for people who really want to shake their frames.

I understand what you mean. I have only the cabin speakers and I know I'm missing out on a lot of the music. If wasn't too busy trying to get the car in better shape and too poor because of bills I would have already gotten a somewhat decent amp and sub already.

I'm toying with the idea of cutting my sub box down and turning it into a single 12 to make it easier to remove (I'm old and have a bad back, lol)... that way when I need to haul my instruments and rig, I can pull the sub out without a lot of trouble

well, got rid of those subs last night, traded for a set of sable 7 spokes :]
so... I've got a guy wants to trade for some musical gear I have, a bass and bass amp.
I'm trying to figure out if I want to do it, or if its a good deal. I have my gear listed on craigslist for a total of 500.
what he's offering : SAYS the stuff is almost new....
crunch p1500.1
two 10 inch power acoustik mofo's in a ported box
and... either a 4awg wiring kit, a 500k micro farad capacitor, or a pioneer DEH-3900mp
he's willing to come here, I don't have to deliver or ship anything, don't have to meet him anywhere
what do you guys think? is it worth 500 dollars?

Good bass is going to take up a minimum of around 2 cu ft. More will make it more efficient, but 2 feet +-1cu ft is almost every box I've ever built.

That's not a bad deal at all as long as everything is in good shape! As far as which of the 3 options to choose from I guess that depends on what you already have. I wouldn't bother with the cap unless you already have a better deck and amp wiring. If you already have large enough wires installed to handle the new amp then I would go with the deck if the deck is better than what you already have. I would only choose the wiring if it's really needed more than everything else.

thanks, the deck I have is FAR better, theres barely any comparison. other than my head unit, my system is stock. I plan on changing the speakers but keeping the stock amp. as far as audio and power cables for the amp, at this point I have nothing.

In that case the wiring will be your best bet. Otherwise you would have to spend cash to get a kit. Caps aren't really needed unless you somehow still experience dimming even after upgrading the Big 3.
