I've got Boston S-85s. They were only $120 for the set of four. They're pretty good overall, but I am pulling some of low and high mids from them in the EQ to help make the curve more "flat". IIRC I'm pulling 2-3 dB at about 250 Hz (Q is 2.0) and also pulling about 4 dB (Q 1.5) around 2 K. If you crank them hard you'll want to pull more 2K for less harshness.
Bass response was better than stock premium speakers before I added the sub but as most have already said, for "real" bass response you'll need a dedicated woofer.
