I think they mean the little keypad that some cars have under or above the door handle.

But an option I don't think I could ever go without. I love that thing.
Heres a fact that some might not know.
87 TC was the car of the year
89 SC car of the year again.
Separated by the Gran Prix I believe.

Eh, I'd rather have my car started with the AC/Heat going and press a button to unlock the doors or pop the trunk before I even get to the car than I would a piece of plastic that the numbers get worn off of after a few years.

I was just looking at this picture....IIRC, the SVE Bird was supposed to be a 96 model, then a 97, then a 98. So the prototypes where probably built sometimes in 94 or 95.

Clearly it's built out of a 94-95 bird. You've got a 94-95 rear bumper, 94-95 door handles, 96-97 side cladding, and a custom hood to fit the 94-95 headlights. The front bumper is obviously a 96-97 front bumper, only the bottom is different to accomodate the foglights they'd used on the birds since the first supercoupes. They probably where going to use that bumper on the 96+ bird before they realized that the supercoupe would be no more (I.E. the foglights where only available on the SC in 94-95) No SC, no avail. foglights, no need for a front bumper with foglight holes.

I used to think that bumper was made specifically for the prototype SVE, but I'm thinking now that it was a b umper designed for the 96 that never made production due to ford deciding against foglights (bad idea, IMO)

I always thought it was neat how that car has the Cobra R's and a SC 32V. Both of which were later used on the Stang.

Looks like they have the Ford blue oval on them. Nothing i've seen in the catalog recently.
EDIT: just looked through the FRPP catalog, the only ones with the blue oval are the ones that are in the pic in the post below

I've got Blue Oval centercaps for my Cobra Rs.

They aren't silver though... I kinda like the ones in the pic better.

Hmmm very interesting, I now the VINs are assigned right away and then they schedule the actual production date depending on a slew of reasons but I've always wondered just how far out of sequence they occasionally get?

Anyway where did you aquire those build dates dude!? I know the date from my car from trhe door jam data plate and the metal radiator support info tag (whatever it's called) and verified that againt OASIS data but thats thats cool info for you to add to the puzzle. I would like to know how you found it out.

If you don't want to talk about it publicly you can email me I swear I know how to keep my mouth shut when someone trusts me.

Could someone refresh my memory as to what the build date for the final MN12 Thunderbird was?

One problem with all the 4.6L VINs in the settlement doc is they are sorted by check digit and imbedded in tables so I've got to get it out of the damned table and resort it by the production sequence for a clearer picture of the data, but I'm not to sure how I'll do that easily.

If anyone knows of a website that will calculate a check digit for you based on the rest of the VIN that would help too...

I thought I read here, somewhere, that the last build date was Sept. 4.

If that's true, that would make my car one of the last. (It's build date on the door jamb says 09/97.)

i love how everyone calls mn12's oversized mustangs, since alot of things the mustang has were available first on mn12's
4.6 and 4r70w= mn12-94, stang-96
irs= mn12-89, stang-99 cobra
32v 4.6= 93 mark, stang-96 (fn10 is almost the same)

so that makes the stangs minature mn12s

Personally I think with a little work from Ford which was proven by the design team that was repramanded for their work. The mn-12 was far superior over the mustang.

To bad Ford didnt take the oportunity and make some kick azz T birds and Cougars, but once again the superior car would have over taken the mustang.

But look at GM they have the vette, camaro, firebird, all fairly hot cars, then you have ford where they try to dominate with just a mustang, but no combonation of cars. Makes me think, "What were they doing?"

If they had built a T-Bird/Cougar model like chevy did with the SS and GTP cars Ford would have had a stranglehold on the mid-size market. The MN-12s were superior in everyway to the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix cars. If they would have left the Mustang as a niche market car like it really is and put some effort into a practical car with performance image (SS/GTP) they would have slaughtered Chevy and Chrysler in sales and made alot more in profits.

If your door jam data plate says 9/97 you need to pop your hood and look at the metal "core support" that runs from fender to fender and has the radiator mounted to it as well as the plastic "Header panel" the headlights mount to.

On top, right to the left of the opening for your windshield washer fluid reservoir should be a stamped metal tag held to the core support by one hex headed screw in the corner.

The upper right number is the sequence number (CUN) and should match the VIN, the lower right number is the engine serial number and should match the large bar code sticker on the outside (fender side) of the passenger side valve cover (my engine has the production serial number and engine assembly date on it in plain English too, which is 2 days before my car was assembled.).

Roughly in the center of the metal tag should be a 4 digit number starting with "09" in your case. The second two digits are the DAY your car was assembled.

I hope that helps, it doesn't look like that vin sequence follows anything
As far as I know those are all 4.6's indicated by the W in the VIN.

So in the interest of MN12 trivia does anyone know what the proper name is for this "metal core support tag"? (I don't know)

That was actually from OASIS, which shows a lot of things including build date and in-service date.
