Where do you live, and how restrictive are their gun laws?

I'd like to have fast internet; it's been a long time since I could run a server.

But TN has some wonderful laws...

That's pretty insane! You must have FiOS as competition in the area. Otherwise the cable companies are super stingy with the caps.

Huh?

T1 is 1.5Mbit/sec - that's better than T3, and pushing a healthy fraction of OC3 speeds ( 45Mbit for the first, 155Mbit for the latter ... )

Standard DSL used to be T1 speed down, but not T1 up. (Now that they're offering 20Mbit DSL in spots, I can't say "is" anymore )

I pay $77.00 per month from comcast as I have Direct TV so it is a stand alone internet only plan. It uses the cisco docsis 3.0 modem.

I have a friend that used to work for an ISP with a triple DS3 connection. He ran a speed test and the result was quit goofing off and get back to work... ( I forget what site it was, maybe DSL reports?)

Mostly stock...

8 Mbit = 1 MByte.

Your download is only as fast as the server's upload/the slowest link in the connection chain (whichever is slower). ISP caps and these speed tests are a max transfer rate; not a guarantee.

I've got 1.5 Mbit/s down and 384 kbit/s up. Quit whining.

I hate Qwest so much I don't even play COD on my consoles anymore. If anyone at home thinks about the internet, it bottoms out. I'm planning on switching to Optimum (took over Bresnan). I could do without anything but internet, and we have the suckiest around. I'm jealous of my brother, he works for a cable company and gets everything free. PPV, fast internet, I hear they're running fiber optic soon, and any other service they offer.

Also downloading map packs can take an hour or two. And the free games they had for the PS3, I just let it run overnight. It was done the next night. I should probably direct-connect the PS3 next time and see if it helps.

It's better than dial-up, which I'm sure is your only other option.

Still horrible. "Slower than 87% of US, Grade: F"

Then again, may be dial up would be faster? You could also try Carrier pigeon ...
