Agh, we had to switch providers and plans to save some cash. Here's what I'm stuck with:

Well, at least your upload is better than mine.

I can't beleive I pay for this crappy service.

Thanks Shadow. I tried that and my download speeds are about the same now - around 20 to 30 and my upload is still capped at less than 1.

Mods? Yea, I got mods ...
Air silencer delete, warp drive, dilithium crystals, flux capacitor, Slingshot Rubber band power adder, Moonshine & Gas, Leaf Blower Supercharger, Hamster Wheel & Hamster, Energizer Bunny generating 1.21 gigawatts, Mr. Fusion® Home Energy Reactor, hover conversion and a sextant celestial navigation system (The original GPS)
Best 1/4: 1,320 nanoseconds @ 670,616,629.2 miles per hour

Now that I'm in the office and can look... it probably won't take place until the appointment you have since you did more than just upgrade speeds. I tried to force through the new speeds but it won't let me until the work order is checked in. Your modem is configured for 10x1 so the fact that you are getting 20-30 is not bad. lol

My test is using a Greensboro server too. You can choose any server you want to use for this test. The default is Greensboro.

I'm in Greensboro and it usually sends me to Shelby. It tries not to pick the closest one as it might report faster than normal speeds due to less hops.

They are scheduled to auto-reboot on the 6th or 7th, but the speeds went up for lite/basic/turbo yesterday. Normal/Wideband/Extreme stayed the same, except for Fayetteville where Normal get the same speed everyone else does now.

Is the fact I'm getting 20-30 now because of the upgrade that you mentioned above back in December? If so, am I wasting my money getting the upgrade now. I'd hate to think that I'd go from 20 to 30 now back down to just 20ish AND pay more for it.

Regular RR went up to 10x1 in December. Your modem config says 10x1 now. Mine reads 20x2 but I get 30 from speedtest. That's because the speedtest is a small file and the "powerboost" is letting it through as fast as it can, so your download on speedtest won't change much, however your sustained download of larger transfers will double, as will your upload.

"powerboost" works by bursting small files, but if you were to monitor it over a few minute download you would see it drop down to 10 after 30 seconds or so. In other words it's more of a Nitrousboost with a very small tank. Most ISP's are doing something like this now to make web browsing and light downloading work faster (this also skews speedtests btw). If you need the upstream or the sustained speed however, that's when you want faster service. For a true test of speed you would want to download a gig of data and measure the results.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Yea, powerboost skews the results. That makes sense.

I look forward to going up to 20x2.

I didn't feel it was worth 4x the cost for the extra 20 down, I was more wanting the 5 up.

This is the only internet provider available. About 500 feet closer to town is where the next internet provider stops, they only offer 100 Mbps.

I lives in the the country.

Just switched my long distance over to the cable provider. Supposedly got boosted up to a 6 MB pipe.

Not too bad. Saves me $90/month but adding the Bird to my insurance adds about $40/month. It still saves me about $40-50/month.

Cool thread BTW.

Just got AT&T U-Verse today and here's my result as of a minute ago:

I tested it earlier and it was at 23.57 Mb/s download and still at 2.71 up, ping was at 43ms.

This replaces a 6Mb DSL line but was always connecting around 5 Mb. I only went with U-Verse to replace my standard AT&T phone line and AT&T DSL, paying pretty much the same. For TV I have Dish Network and it's awesome, especially with the DVR and its' 500 MB hard drive.

ADDED: My younger brother told me tonight that Google is going to provide FREE internet at some fast speed and their pay service will provide 1 TB of speed for around $74 to $80 a month. Hmmmm...... Found a story on it: http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/pos...free-internet/
