Tons of things, that is a loaded question. Let's start with:

1 - Wired or Wireless?
2 - Laptop or Desktop?
3 - What tier of speed are you paying for?
4 - Are you using a modem, or modem + side car router, or a gateway?
5 - Windows, or OS X? I am not familiar with Unix or Linux outside of the OSX platform.

Lucky you...

What I want to know is if TWC throttles content?

Sen me a PM if you must. But I'd love to know. Thanks.

Is TWC or Your ISP Throttling Content?

Mods? Yea, I got mods ...

Haven't updated this since Cox has "doubled my speed".

Of course it means I hit my monthly quota earlier. I could in theory hit my monthly quota of 250 GB in 12 hours now.

Unlimted internet FTW! I couldn't live in an area where the dominant ISPs have caps on my data usage.

Other than sending me mail with suggestion that maybe I should get a better plan, Cox hasn't actually done anything, no throttling, capping, nothing.

First time it happened I am glad they let me know. It was actually my cell phone trying to upload a video and it was failing. My cell phone was always 200 degrees and I had to charge it every few hours, once I got the mail I checked. It was going through 40 gigs a day of traffic, I hit my data quota on the 7th day of the month.

With 4 people in the household, 2 TVs that have Netflix built in, tablets, phones, computers always streaming.

I work from home and some days I might download 2 Microsoft DVD images for OSes, a few Mac OS install packages, Visual Studio, install patches on 6 or 7 computers, etc.

Generally by 8 am I have already used more bandwidth than my parents get for a month with a satellite provider.

No doubt!

I saw the Google Fiber report above and though "Oh, isn't that amazing?"... little did I realize until I looked it up tonight that Google is actually working on such a network in the Charlotte Area! ... WIN!

It looks like we're about two years out before this system is available here but Wow! That's some serious bandwidth to look forward to.

While Google's super fast connection is nice, I think their "pay a 1 time fee, get free internet for life" is an awesome idea, even if it is not near as fast as their pay per month plans.

Dude, I'm jelly of that! It's cool though. I'm happy to know that GF is rolling out to more and more cities throughout the United States and that it is causing significant ripples throughout the ISP industry causing them to be on the defensive and offer better speeds at competitive rates.

I just wonder how long it will be before GF is implemented throughout most of the United States and / or competitors will be offering speeds and prices similar to GF.

Pricy if that's all you're getting. I pay less than that for 50 down / 5 up bandwidth AND Cable TV. Granted, I wish my upload speed was that high.

But if xfinity has a monopoly on your area then I guess you're stuck. The best you could do is call customer service and ask for a discount ... It never hurts to ask ...

Supposedly "top tier internet" and digital HDTV (no premium channels) is the package I have.

I guess I could call and threaten to go to Dish network?

Update:

TWC is stepping up their game - not out of the goodness of their hearts - but because they FINALLY have some competition. Thank you GOOGLE!

I received this flyer in the mail while I was out of town:

I'm currently on the 50/5 plan. Hello 300/20 !!!

I ran the speed test again tonight just to see where I'm at now. I think my modem is holding me back. I'll have to switch to the better modem next week.

Is the account in your name and are you in Huntersville? If so then yes, your modem is not capable of the new speed. I had to buy a new router too cause my Cisco/Linksys EA3500 wasn't fast enough.

Yes and yes. I'll swing by the TWC office tomorrow and swap modems. I'll have to research my router's capacity.

Yup, my 10/100 wireless G Linksys 110 ain't gonna cut it either!

Thanks for the heads up.

Ok. New modem, old router:

I'm getting my 20 on the upload side but it's worse on the download and ping. WTF?

Compared to last night ...

Time to swap the router to something better and see what happens. BTW, I upgraded From the Linksys 110 to the Linksys AC1900, Model #EA6900

Stay tuned ...

Wow!

I am stuck with Cox and no real options. I work from home and find my current speeds fine, even with multiple streamers, downloaders, and uploading streaming from my satellite receiver.

I always go over my transfer limits by the 10th of the month, they don't seem to do anything but send me shame mail. They recently doubled my bandwidth but not transfer limit, I could go until the 15th of the month before going over 350 gigs.
