Thanks for the kind words guys!

When is your paint job Ron, I assume late summer? Same color I'd assume? What kind of a job are you aiming for - "factory quality" (what I asked for) or better?

Yea, late summmer, probably some time in July or early August. I've got to figure out when I can get the car out for the work and get the finances in order to pay for it - as you know - paint ain't cheap!

I got an estimate about a year ago from Sophious who works at a paint & body shop. I'll have to get a new quote for the work since it's been to long since the last estimate.

They do amazing work and I feel very comfortable leaving my car in his capable hands.

No, not the same color. It's gonna be Orange! LOL, just kidding. Yes, same color. I had considered a dark blue but in the end decided to stick with the dark green that it is now. As far as paint quality, IDK, it all depends on my finances. It certainly won't be anything less than "Factory quality". We'll see how much "better" I can afford ...

I've got some orange peel in the paint on both bumpers from where they were replaced by a sorry-ass dealership after I wrecked the car in ... I think it was 2000? (I hydroplaned, spun out and hit a guard rail). I had to have the front and rear bumpers replaced along with the right rear quarter pannel.

I've got a few minor body changes planned while it's in the shop; of course to fix all the nicks, scratches and minor dents, I also want to shave the antenna in addition to having the rear fenders rolled. I also bought a Cobra R hood. That's it.

He did end up going over my budget, but he says he cut me some discounts to bring it in closer to my price range. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, after seeing everything he went through to do the job right with the unexpected additional work, I'm content with the end results. For those interested, the total was $4300. That includes a new fender, metal work on both rockers, metal work in the passenger quarter panel, removing and reinstalling the exhaust and gas tank, installing the fuel pump, a new set of door locks, filling and smoothing any imperfections, and of course the paint prep, finish, reassembly and detailing. I bought the fuel pump, both rockers and the replacement door prior to the work being done for a total of $450.

Unfortunately with all this nonsense snow we had over the weekend, the roads are still wet with salt water and there's no way I'm driving it home in that crap. So, needless to say with 52 degrees and sunny forecast for tomorrow...

Ummm. I know Ed lol. Used to run with the whole crowd out there. My buddy owned the Marathon a mile east. I ran the counter, did the books and did a lot of the service quotes. That's right before I did the auto parts gig for a couple years.

That really did come out great.

Thanks. I'm such a lazy bum though so it only gets washed 3 or 4 times a year. It needs a good scrub/clay bar treatment, esp. below the side cladding.

Paint has held up well over the last 3 years. It looks just about how it did the day I brought it home, aside from the typical road-rash at the front of the hood from the occasional highway debris kicked up by trucks...

There are a couple minor areas that need some attention though - it looks like he missed some rust or something at the center of the underside of the rocker on the driver's side since there's a short 3-4" strip where the paint has cracked and is lifting slightly. There's also a small chip that flaked off on the lip of the passenger door, and there are a few groups of small bubbles under the paint at the front of the hood. I'm thinking about having this guy take the rust out of the Mark VIII in a couple months, so how he responds to the issues this car has developed will help me decide if he's the right guy for the job...

Properly washed and waxed the Bird for the first time this afternoon since ... probably since I got the thing back from the fresh paint 5 years ago. Didn't feel like starting a new thread to share pics. Thought I'd do the Mark VIII this afternoon too but I was properly exhausted after just one car.

Looks like the paint finish is holding up pretty well after five years...

Beautiful car, Dude!

I had a 83 firebird painted flame red; it looked a lot like that color looks.

That's a way hotter shade than my Red Cougar; do you have a link to your paint thread? I seem to remember it happening...

No, I won't paint my car that color, lol.

Absolutely beautiful car brandon. After 5 years that paint still looks awesome. They did a great job on it. Not too shabby for a 20 year old car...
