The Bilsteins that work on MN12's are:
99-04 Cobra with independent Rear Suspension

---> Only the rear shocks are compatible with our cars. <----

Bilstein Part numbers are:

HD Front: F4-V36-4138-H3
HD Rear: F4-BE5-2959-HO

SP Front: F4-VE3-4593-WO
SP Rear:
Old part number: F4-BE5-C265-HO
New part Number: 24-185974

HD are the Heavy Duty's
and
SP are the Sports

The sports are the firmer of the two choices used on the Cobra Convertibles.

The difference, as described by Bilstein, is quoted below.

Quote:
SPORT (S)
For the performance-minded driver, Bilstein “Sport” shocks deliver absolute mastery of the road surface.
Designed to push a car’s suspension to its performance peak, these shocks are well suited for use with special springs, anti-sway bars or other suspension upgrades.

HEAVY DUTY (HD)
For most vehicles including full-size sedans, SUVs and trucks. These shocks provide improved handling and stability without sacrificing ride comfort. They offer super damping ability that makes them ideal for heavy hauling for occasional off-road use, while maintaining and exceptional “street” ride.

The one's on my car are the Sports (Convertible): New part Number: 24-185974 Old Part number: BE5-C265-HO Bilstein Sport Ford Mustang Cobra which I ordered from shockwarehouse.com in November of 2006.

As an alternative option for people with too much money in their pocket, these look to be the current top of the line rear setup in terms of adjustability:
Here's another option for the rear for people who insist on spending a ton of money on their MN12:

QA1 Double Adjustable Rear shocks @ ~$245/ea (yeah, that's $490/pair)
Pros:
- Can be adjusted 18-ways for compression and 18-ways for rebound
Cons:
- Stupid expensive

Are the bolts the same? I looked at the fitment for other Bilsteins and saw that the Mustang shocks used a bolt that required us to take the bushing out of the shock for the setup to work as the Mustang's bolts are thicker than Tbird bolts for the bottom of the shock.

They're Identical. I took the old shocks off and bolted the Bilsteins in. - Direct Fit.

I thought I had read here in the past here that the Bilstein fronts had problems with breaking on the botom mount where it's welded to the shock tube.

When Bilstein made shocks for the front of MN12's I believe that was a problem. However, Bilstein no longer makes front shocks for the MN12's. Problem solved. LOL.

So are the front shocks OEM FORD Sport shocks and the rears Bilsteins? I assumed since it said Bilstein it was refering to both front & rear.

Yes, my front shocks are OEM FORD Sport shocks and the rears Bilsteins. This is an acceptable set up and the FORD Sports aren't that expensive either.

This is true, but I wish the fronts were a little stiffer to match the rears. When I first did the swap, I learned to take speed bumps slow in the front. I had slammed down on a few.

no...

99-04 COBRA with INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION will bolt on.

99-04 MUSTANGS are solid axle and use a different setup

I bought a set of front OEM Sport shocks off of Jason in December 2006. They probably are discontinued by now but there may be a few sets still available. Anyone interested in these should get them now before they're all gone.

Otherwise it's Koni or Tokico. Any other recommendations?

Cobra/Mustang use McPherson struts on the front. They will not fit MN12 cars.
