Don't forget J-mod or Jmod.

The Jmod is an abbreviation for the Jerry Wroblewski transmission Modification. Jerry was an transmission engineer with Ford and was instrumental in the development of the 4R70W Transmission that came out in 1993.

The Jmod will firm your shifts up considerably. It consists of drilling the separator plate, removing the spring from the 2-3 accumulator, and removing the lower spring from the 1-2 accumulator and replacing the upper spring in same accumulator.

Initially I left J-mod off because I considered it more an abbreviation than an acronym, but I'll add it.

CV also stands for Constant Velocity

also, ECU, ECM, and PCM need to have some notation added that they, in effect, refer to our car's computers

I'll add it since OE/OEM is occasionally used in documentation for parts and equipment, or references to equivalents.

I will not be adding silly/profane/insulting acronyms to the list, such as "lol", "rofl", "wt*" etc. This is supposed to be a quick reference to acronyms that are used on this site that hold a lot of importance and meaning in posts that new (or old) members might not recognize. The more complex web slang stuff can be deciphered easily enough via Google if it is so desired.

A/T - Automatic transmission
M/T - Manual transmission
ECT- Engine coolant temperature
HO2S - Heated Oxygen sensor
CKPS - Crankshaft position sensor
AC - Alternating current
DC - Direct current
A/C - Air Conditioning
EFI -Electronic fuel injection
HVAC - Heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning

Just to clarify the differences between ECU, ECM and PCM. An ECM is Engine only while a PCM is Engine and transmission (ie: the powertrain). ECU mean electronic control unit, not engine control unit and can mean any module that is controlled electronically not just the ECM.

Revised! Yes, your distinctions between the terms regarding the computer are correct, but in our case they all generally refer to the same physical component (with the exception of ECM, which technically would apply but as you stated, covers a much more broad spectrum of components).

ACT= air charge temperature (same as IAT in an N/A engine, but in F/I, it means air temps post-compressor/blower

might as well add..

N/A= Naturally aspirated engine
P/A= Power-Adder engine
F/I= Forced induction engine (within the power adder group, but usually denotes super/turbo-charging)

So just how many acronym lists does the internet really need?

I can see acronym that are unique to the MN12/FN10 platform, but do we really need to reinvent the wheel?
