The previous owner did all kinds of mods like svt emblems on the trunk and center console and what looks like oversized 5.0 emblems on the fenders. Does that count? I was so over joyed they took an interest in modding it I almost sent them condoms so they wouldnt reproduce.

My first mod was removing the venturi thing in the air intake on the bottom of the filterbox, then rearranging the plastic pipe so it ran down to the lower opening below the bumper right behind the foglight. I kept thinking about the horror stories of sucking up a bunch of water, so eventually I yanked all that off and just let it breathe in through the big opening at the bottom of the filterbox.

After that I did some cosmetic things with the stripes, hoodscoop, and body-color matching various parts and rear emblems, then some very mild performance things with gears, TL, and exhaust. Still have a list of basic things to do yet.

My first mod was I gutted the entire interior. Without having done as much research as I've done now, that was one guaranteed thing I knew we needed to do in order to turn it into a Lemons car.

Plus, if you are just pulling interior bits, it's harder to screw up

first mod...?
Installed premium sound CD unit, does that count?
Clear headlights... had enough of that yellow plastic crap that light wouldn't pass through anymore
Factory corners... not really a mod either though

Air silencer delete... I wanted to just sneak it out some other time and pretend it never happened, but I got bored so I pulled it. (still can't hear the intake over my snow tires)
RSTB and RTLB... Just because I could make them myself.

Fold down seat braces coming in March when my wife visits
That's it! for now. I can't really do anything until I get the car registered in the U.S.
After that, I might get to have some fun.

First mod, flat panel K&N filter. If I had been a TCCOA member 2 years sooner, I wouldnt have had an intake silencer, and subsequently not hydro lock my engine.

I can't recall what happened first but I either gutted my cats trying to fix a problem or removed the air silencer on my current car. Now on my first MN-12 I don't think I ever got around to removing the air silencer despite what I had read here back in 2002. I don't think this counts as a mod but the first thing I did to the car was install a pretty extensive stereo system. I guess the only real mod I made to that car was the removing of the padding and board from the rear deck so that the air pressure from the subs could reach the cabin easier.

Years ago I drove a Mazda through really deep water (like leaking into the car deep), but I knew how those intakes always suck in from down low. So what I did before I drove through the flooded road was take the top off the intake so it would suck the air from the top. It was a smart move on my part, because after I came out the other side, I opened up the hood to put the top back on and the bottom box had water in it (definately would have hydro-locked had I not done what I did).

My first mod was repair/maintenance. I fixed the windows, rear UCA's, sway bar links (front & rear), and had to replace all the doors and ignition lock (pissed off girlfriend left and took all my car keys with her - b**ch). Oh, and then I did the Cobra radiator swap.

The first day I had my bird I replaced the battery from my grand marquis which was bigger. I replaced the back speakers withthe after market ones from the grand marquis. I also added tough rubber floor mats that I used in the GM as well. You could say all my first mods were from pulling things off the grand marquis. I chopped the muffs off and did the silencer as my first changes to the car from stock. The speakers were already aftermarket so that really does count for modding. I then did the K+N panel filter.

My first real mod was to a built trans and marauder tc.

Spinning pies like wheels.

Impressive Jim! Now that's got to be a fun car to drive. I hope I get a chance to check it out next time I'm down in H-Town

Do you have any numbers on the set up? 1/4 mile or dyno?

Its still my ongoing project so i haven't been to the 1/4 with it yet. As for numbers it put down 379rwhp on a 100 degree day on a dynojet but i was having spark blowout issues above 5000rpm. I fixed those issues but haven't had the car back on a dyno yet for new numbers.

hmmm, suppose the first one was the clear corners. one of the yellows was cracked and they look much better on a deep jewel green clear.

otherwise i would have to say Jmod/97 trans when my old 95s TCC solenoid stopped working and locked my TC up solid. i would have just swapped the solenoid, but the VB was buzzing and all sorts of stuff... figured i would take care of it all at once. oh, and the 11" T/C and flywheel i suppose.

well, maybe it was the tires, went with the BFG radial T/A's in a nonstock size, same diameter, just more tread.

and man, reading through these old posts, makes me wonder what ever happened to porkchop, guess he got banned for something :P never did keep up on that PI swap he was doing.

RUST!! eating away at me more than the rear fender wells
95 Deep Jewel Green 40th Anniversary Bird / Stock SOHC 170k FRPP PI intake swap, filter relocated! 97 Mk8 4R70W, Jmod, 3L27 / energy susp rear spindle, and cobra arm bushings, Tru-Cool Max/radiator cooler bypassed, 93 Mk8 shaft, and LCAs, 225/60r16 Michelin Defenders on Windstar twin 5spokes, Vogtland 1.6drop springs, Tokico Blues, PBR, and rear-disk swap, 89 SC swaybars

My first mod was to Lazarus' sheetmetal, pretty much.

I totaled it, and bought another one.

I ended up doing an 02 tranny swap, along with the driveshaft, and the diff to that one.

I've since rebuilt the suspensions on both cars, intake swaps, tranny swaps, jmods, shocks, bracing, exhaust, stereos, engine swaps in process, and now tuning.

They're addictive, for sure.

It unmuffles the air intake, and it's inside the passenger front fender, under the air box (open the air box, remove the filter, look down - you're looking at the inside of it.)

Search for instructions on how to remove it.

On my first bird:
Air Silencer Removal
Intake
And if you call these mods:
Tint
Chrome Fan Blades(paid $80 at local U Pull It)

The new, already heavily modded, bird:
went from 4.10s to 2.73s(before anyone says anything about that I can explain)
Working on getting an 03 Cobra Radiator

4.10s went out 13 hours from home. Had to take what I could get on super short notice so I could get home. BTW thanks to Tyler(Sin Humane) and Kyle(Sorry don't remember your board name) for all that help. Your proof that the people on this board are one of a kind and great people. And don't worry. I'll either be putting 3.73s or 4.10s back in it. But that will be when I get back from deployment.

For the clear corners, I think it also depends on what color your corner lights are if you put 6000k led lights it would look kinda strange with the amber corner lenses.

My first mod on my bird (not the sc) was brakes and HID headlights
Sc got a larger air filter (Conical) nothing else yet

PI heads, PI cams, PI intake, ported jba headers, lots of replacement parts. She's been a loyal beast. Now she is sporting a modified 4v and I'm loving it. The desire for headers are high on my list now though.

As a matter of fact here's my post from when I finally got her running right. I was so 4.6 green (newb) and so proud of my work. Then again I'm still quite proud of my bird. New paint and headers are next.

Its Alive!! Back from the dead.

Looking back then Oscar (guitar maestro), Nick (the ghost), and Gordon (Supergordo) were very kind. I consider Gordon one of my good friends and a great mechanic, always willing to lend a hand or a tool, Oscar is hilarious and a wealth of useful information, I owe him a beer if I'm ever in his area, and Nick (the ghost) IDK I think he might have gone crazy, we were good friends but lost contact and then he started modifying his bird in weird ways and disappeared after lots of negative criticism. Anyway, I stayed because of the people and the tech. I've seen many scared away. It was neat looking at this thread because it made me look up my oldest posts. It's been a great 5 years.

First mod was, of course, the silencer delete. I changed out the air filter the day after I got it and since I was already halfway there... Since then, I've been busy chasing down various gremlins and replacing the hoses and EGR valve. This weekend is more routine maintenance (wheels balanced, plugs, wires, possibly coil, etc...) then on to the fun stuff in a week or two - swapping dual piston calipers, JMod when I change the trans fluid, and seeing what the underside looks like in preparation for the future swap.

This site is awesome and has been an incredible resource for planning what I'm going to do with the Bird. I joined up about a month ago and I'm on here virtually every day even though I rarely post, I'm too busy digging through the archives and setting up a game plan! A huge thank you to everyone that has shared their knowledge and experience here.

I'm probably wrong

A simple K&N panel filter was my first modification. Afterwards MSD wires, 3" to 2.5" exhaust with Flowtech Terminators. Later I removed the air-silencer and customized it to fit a K&N conical filter (RF-1003) into the fender.
Future mod: npi to pi head and intake swap.

Do I look like someone with a plan? 0_o
