Alarm Issues

Hey All,

My 97 started this thing where when I lock the doors with the lock button on the door or fob, close the doors 30 seconds later the alarm goes off. If I push the lock plungers down it doesn't do it because that doesn't arm the system.

I was thinking it was the door closed sensors/plungers in the door frame near the hinges, but the dash light goes off immediately when I close the doors and the lamp lights turn off as well.

At a loss, any suggestions?

The door locks are a common area to cause problems like you said. The ignition cylinder can also trigger the alarm and they can get a bad connection issue over time. I am not sure but I think the trunk lock and underhood light can as well.

The alarm module in the trunk can get corrosion and bad solder joints after time.

I just unplugged the module in my 96 Tbird because of the same issue you had. For me it wasn't worth the time tracking down what was wrong to fix it. Unplugging it disables it completely with no side effects.
