Northern Ohio area...

Seems like over the last couple years the northern Ohio area has gotten a couple more active members. Any of you guys want to do some kind of meet up for a casual afternoon?

I've never done any 1/4 passes myself but have had a feigning interest in seeing how the Bird would do at the track - but since the only one I know of is out in Norwalk I've always been too much of a wuss to go by myself. Maybe that could be an option as well if there's interest. I know there's the JBMN and SC Shootout coming, but they're more of a weekend event rather than an afternoon considering they're both ~6 hours from here.

What say you?

Yes, definitely so. Just need to find a good day for it...

We "could" all meet out by the plant (I think you mentioned this in the pic thread) and drive down there. Grab a bite to eat along the way or something.

Well I know exactly one guy with a MN12 (you) and some other guy (me) with three Cougars. It's always good to meet people and to promote the breed a bit.

Maybe I'll take two The GF used to cut a pretty good bulb. Managed the lowest ET with my 78 Ranchero.

Still thinking about trying for a Friday night this year - the upcoming dates this year are 9/25, 10/2 and 10/9. Any one of those work better than another?

Sounds like 97CatMan and I are going to try for the TnT on the Friday after next, the 25th. It will be interesting to see what the T-bird runs in its current config... I'm guessing at the very least low-mid 14s, being overly optimistic maybe breaking into the 13s? I have no idea.

I know I need to clean my IAC. The car sometimes want to idle at about 35 MPH. And it's not as crisp as it should be. I'd really rather take the DD and flog that since I'd like a couple of baseline runs since that's the car that's likely to get all the mods. But.... With the very very minor drip of the rack I doubt it would pass tech inspection. I may bring both if I can pry "she who games" away from the terminal hive mind for a evening.

I'm lucky. I can dial a 16.00 and maybe beat it. Now might be the time to swap the spare for the MK VIII one. I'm sure that will save .00001 of my ET.

I'd like to run both cars actually and see what effect the Dorman actually has. That and a extra 125,000 miles.

We need a list of stuff to bring. Cooler. Shoe polish. Tire inflator. Lug wrench. Flashlight. Last time I went was in 1999. I wasn't planning on bringing the Giant Bucket O Tools or a jack unless we have a secure place to store them. Leaving a bunch of tools lying against the fence between rounds seems fool hardy.

But I'm looking forward to making a few passes.

Well, due to the sheer number of people who showed up and also due to the fact that the guys with slicks kept blowing up on the track, we only got one pass in.

My ONE pass, being the first time I've ever gone, I managed a 14.01 at 97... I even beat the dude next to me.

I'm positive the car can break into the 13s with a better driver, considering it's .013 away and I eased in when the light turned green rather than just nailing it. Darn, my RT was lousy.

Acceleration logs show the 1-2 shift at 6450 was perfect, upped the 2-3 shift from 5850 to (theoretically) 6350... I guess we'll see next time. Timing was 20-21 the whole run... I'm just pleased the car performed as well as I expected it to... and nothing broke.

Mine only ran a 16.10 or so. The DD wasn't far behind. Took both cars

Hopefully a few more passes will get me back into the 15.89 range. I want to get a good baseline on both cars. One will get all the mod fodder I've been buying I suspect the TLock in the Dorman car is helping things out there

I'm planning the Dorman Intake Duel of Death Shootout. Cougar vs Cougar winner take all (I can't lose - they are both mine)

I thought Branden and the car did very well.

Hopefully next time we can get more runs in. Maybe they need to add a third lane for the guys planning on burying their motors. Get Oil Dri to sponsor it.

Um... no Fords blew up

Thanks for the tip Darren. I have a feeling the best teacher for this kind of thing is experience.

Now all I need to do is go back up this Friday and get my 13 second pass... and see if I can get 100 MPH out of it. Pretty sure I've got both in the bag, but until I get that time slip I can't say I did.

October 2 test and tune at 6 PM... anyone else in?

Hopefully the Chevy guys can refrain from spitting engine guts and juices all over the track this time.

I'm going to try.

I normaly need to give a heads up at work. But we saw how well that worked last Friday lol.

Unfortunately I really do run in a 100 air mile radius. Cover ten counties and have the longest run in our terminal. Friday's are the worst day of the week. It's air freight and it really HAS to be picked up and delivered. Otherwise it doesn't happen till Monday. And that's a big deal when someone's paid potentially thousands of dollars. Some times I have ground frieght I can shrug off. But Friday's are all about air freight pickups. The space is normally pre booked on a plane. Miss a pickup and miss getting it to its destination terminal in time to get loaded and you might just find yourself getting charged back for the wasted space. So there's just a tiny bit of pressure.

Hooping this Friday works out better. And no one turns the track into a giant slip and slide. That was a unusual amount of down time for them. They used to get things cleaned up a lot quicker.

but yeah I want to go and have some more fun.

As it turns out, last Friday night was the test and tune immediately before the ACCEL series championships - which explains why it was so busy that night. Last night was a great night overall because there was nothing at the track the day after - and with the insane winds and threat of rain, only a handful of people showed up.

We stayed about 3 hours and I got 5 passes in, with tune modifications and adjustments between each run. Unfortunately I didn't get a good launch on any of my passes... but I did manage to set a new personal best ET and MPH despite that, finally breaking into the 13s. My times were terribly inconsistent.

This is the video the wife shot from the stands of that pass. I was lined up against a new '15 Vette which ran high 11s.

13.957 @ 97.56 (IIRC, I'll update when I dig out the slip later)

I think I'm content with the results for now. I don't think I can manage a serious improvement to ET or MPH without better tires; from a tuning standpoint I got exactly what I was after - some data to refine the high load/RPM fueling and spark in the tune which I had not previously been able to do. Plus I've got some good times to compare against any future mods I do (GM's longtubes whenever he does them and possibly a higher RPM friendly intake).

Good times last night. Dropped from the 16.18 or so back into the cars old range 15.90s. Actually ran the cars best time ever at 15.87 and 86-87 MPH with a terrible reaction time into a 20MPH headwind. Go figure. So the cars performance hasn't dropped since 99. So I'm happy.

Other cars going in for the rack job Tuesday and if it's back together by next Friday I'll see how it runs. I want a good base line on that car since that's likely the one getting all the mods.

Next year I think I'm going to go wednsday nights. Open time trials are nice if your diddling with you tune. It's boring running with some 8 second street bike or 12 second Nova. I miss running a split tree and finding yourself door handle to door handle heading into the traps

And congrats to Brandon. He managed to break into the 13's on street tires through iron exhaust manifolds. There WAS a lot of slippage at the track last night. I managed to get rubber going into second in drive with my car.

Congrats on your new best Brandon..It looks like you shot out of the hole pretty good, but had a lot of wheel spin..

What kind of tires are you running?..I mean what brand, and model..

They're Nitto NT555 255/50/17 on 9" rims. I've considered a wider rear tire but can't seem to find one that's sufficiently tall and not obnoxiously wide (plus I can't remember if you need to roll the fenders if the car's not lowered).

I'm sure part of the reason I got so much spin was the low temps. Good air density but lousy for traction with those tires. My runs were terribly inconsistent. First run of the night I launched at 2500 RPM and had a terrible spin recovery after the "launch" and ended up with something low 16, second run I was IIRC 15.5ish. Third run was mid 14, fourth was my best, last run was mid 15.

Yeah, my 14 second pass I was up against some jacked-up Dodge Ram which beat me off the line (like everyone else lol) but I managed to catch and pass him before the finish. I'll upload that video and embed it here shortly...

The idea of bracket racing piques my interest, but since I've no consistency with the car's times so far, I'd probably not be very good at it. I was actually kinda waiting to see if the track guys would let us run together on one of the later runs last night.
