mark vIII vs thunderbird alternator

will an alternator from a 94 tbird 4.6 work on a 94 mark viii?

They are different part numbers so I don't think it will fit.

ok, rockauto showed the same motorcraft listed under both

I just checked it as well, I didn't see the same one listed under both. You could always try it if you've got one lying around. Mine is off of a crown vic I believe.

The cases on the two alternators are completely different. The dohc one is smaller to fit the intake.

The alternator for the mark is thinner to fit in between the intake manifold and the coolant crossover, while the one for the bird is thicker because it sits further back and is on top of the coolant crossover.
