Connecting rod bolts

Are the SC connecting rods the same as the Naturally Asp connecting rods? I need rod bolts for a NA engine that is in a 89 Bird I am working on , and can only find ARP Bolts for the SC 3.8.
Thanks ,
Larry

They're different, SC rods are stronger but I'm not sure if the bolts are the same.

I can't believe There is no place to get rod bolts for a NA 3.8!! There's a million of those motors out there. Anyone know where a guy might find them? Even Ford told me "Not Available".
Driving me nuts!! I gotta get this thing running very soon(mother-in-laws car)
Thanks for any help!Larry

Larry,

Super Coupe Performance lists connecting rod bolts for the 3.8 n/a and the SC, looks to be the same part. Maybe give them a call.

Check them out.

Yeah , I saw that also. I'll give them a ring tomorrow. ARP's # for the SC bolts is 153-6002. They don't list a # for the NA engine , but I bet Bill might know. Thanks for looking around for me!

Bolts are the same for SC's 89-95 .. only difference between the 89-93 and 94/95 are the fully floating pistons. Otherwise the bolts for the cap are the same. I believe the 3.8 NA would be the same as well. These bolts take the MOST abuse out of any bolt in the engine .. ARP is the way to go. You will need to stretch them by torquing 3 times or use a stretch gauge.

That's great! I will order ASAP. Must be why they only list one # for the 3.8. ARP should update their listings to include the NA motor in the SC part #.
Thanks for all the hepl guys!!

Another related ? The old rod bearings that I took out had holes for oiling , the new ones they gave me don't. The crank rod journals are drilled as are the rods. What's up with that? I double checked part # to make sure they got the right ones. Any thoughts?

some of the old engines (of other engine familys) used to have a small hole in the rod to splash oil up on the cylinder walls and wrist pin, the bearings they used had a matching hole that was lined up to the rod, it maybee that the bearings you have were made to be the same part that is used in differant aplications.

So you think the bearings without the oiling holes will work OK?

Update:
The ARP rod bolts for the SC work just fine on the 3.8 NA engine.
The rod bearings seem to be ok so far too. There is about 250 miles on the motor now.
Just thought you guys ought to know.
Thanks again for all the help!
