Average mpg...

Hello,

I'm a fresh new user on this forum...

I own a 1985 3.8/232 v6 Tbird, carburetor, engine fresh rebuild by Me (4000miles).

City at 25-45mph is around 15 mpg...
Highway (between 80-90mph) 25mpg (approx).
Ext temp, around 60 degrees,
Engine temp is normal.

But I'm rough from the stops to start (no starts on the tires, but rough), engine has not his original air filter (open air filetr), on the highway I use the cruise control, but accelerate end decelerate with the steering...

I dont keep a chance to My bird to do economical, and MORE, the carb is misadjusted, too rich...

But with all of this considerations, I'll see is not bad, But I store for the winter next week, and i'll tune all of the things for the next summer...

See Ya!,

Dom.

I don't have my 3.8 anymore, but here it is anyway for you reference!

Engine: 3.8 N/A
City MPG: 17-20
Highway MPG: 28+ (Gotten as high as 32)
Fuel Used: Shell 87
Average highway speed: 68
Average Climate: 60-70, never used A/C. Ever.
Mechanical Mods: None.
Mileage on the Engine: 120K
Comments: This car was not made to be fast, so I never tried to make it that way. Smooth starts, smooth stops, and cruise control! And also for reference, my 4.6 averages about 2mpg less in highway, but about the same in city. I've never gotten above 30 with it on the highway, which is still damn good for a V8.

Have you had it dyno tuned yet? I would suggest doing so. You'll save a lot of money in gas, and probably gain 20-25rwhp.

Comments: I get horrible mileage...4:30 gears, stock height street tires, PA valve body and some other misc mods(SCT chip, colder plugs, thermostat,ud pullies,etc).....its a gas hog. I drive it like i stole it, i roast the tires at every stop light, 85mph is usually my "average" on the interstate. But when I wake up late and gotta go to class ive been known to jsut have the foot to the floor on the interstate for the 43miles i gotta be on it one way in the mornings.
I was going to say something really sh*tty, but I just saw that you are only 19. So, keep up the good work!!

I just picked up a '93 3.8L T-bird and as soon as I get some MPG figures I will post up the numbers.

I see that you guys are including the climate of the region you are in, but I'd like to know what percentage you think you run the A/C?

As little as possible. Only time I run is is when I'm on the interstate and that accounts for 5%, maybe 10% max of my driving.

Sorry to hear that. One of the only reasons I even thought about getting my T-bird was to have a working A/C.

I guess you are into the drag racing thing? Trying to drop some extra weight?

BTW, my '93 has been getting roughly 22mpg that is very mixed driving and using the A/C 50% of the time. Not bad, not bad at all.

I doubt it did too well, it's just an under-bored 5.0L. I don't know that much about the motor, but if it really is just a smaller 5.0L, I don't see how it's that desirable.
