gas mileage thread for 3.8/4.2

4.6/5.0 has a mpg thread, well i would like to know what other 3.8/4.2 owners are averaging. here's a form to get this thing going. (sorry to jack the thread from the v8 guys, but i wanna know v6 averages.)

Engine:
City MPG:
Highway MPG:
Fuel Used:
Average highway speed:
Average Climate:
Mechanical Mods:
Mileage on the Engine:
Comments:

here's mine........
Engine: 3.8
City MPG: combined w/ highway
Highway MPG: combined w/ city 20.5 per gal.
Fuel Used: 91 oct.
Average highway speed: 75-80
Average Climate: 77 f
Mechanical Mods: CAI, autolite platinum plugs, bosch 8mm wires, new ign. control modual, true dual exaust, and new fuel filter.
Milage on the engine: about 81,000
Comments: this sucks but seems better than the 13-15 mpg i was getting. i can't really do city mpg seperate from highway mpg because i do both constantly. my dual exaust is also killing my gas mileage because i went the cheap route and got glasspacks, next tax income check i'm going for two magnaflow mufflers so that should help out. but i have noticed a good difference in mileage since i started using 91 oct. instead of 89 oct.

1994 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

K&N Intake and Flowmaster Exhaust
1995 Lincoln Mark VIII
hollow front cats, 3rd cat still there, no resonator, replaced by a single 40 series flowmaster, 2 3"x18" tips out back. screamin demon coil packs, mallory pro wires, motorcraft platinum plugs. intake resonator delete.

Engine: 3.8L
City MPG: combined w/ highway
Highway MPG: Varies from 19-22
Fuel Used: 87
Average highway speed: 55-65
Average city speed: 35-40
Average Climate: 15*F-95*F
Mechanical Mods: New Motorcraft plugs & wires.
Mileage on the engine: 108,000 (original engine & tranny)

Comments: I constantly drive in both city and highway conditions so I can't really figure up city MPG. Hopefully, when I get Flowmater's dual exhaust system it will improve my gas mileage a little.

P.S. 'mybird 91': I added 'average city speed' to the list also.

I just fuel up at shell because there's one right besides campus. There's a Thornton's down by I-70, but I honestly think I get better mileage with the shell gasoline over Thronton's or Pilot gasoline.

Plus, it's a 5 mile (or more) round trip to fill up. I'll burn the difference in gas going to and from the gas station.

makes sense........like i used to fill up in missouri because it was 10cents cheaper.....but i was getting smokes there too so it served purpous......now i get between 3-6 dollar off cartons and gas has been pretty much the same price so i might as well stay here and get it.

Engine: 2000 Splitport 3.8L NA

City MPG: 17-19

Highway MPG: 22-24

Fuel Used: Mainly 87 octane but I do flip the switch for the chip and run 93 octane from time to time

Average highway speed: 70 MPH

Average Climate: St. Louis, MO (all sorts of weather)

Mechanical Mods: Tons.....the main mods that apply here are the splitport engine, DIS ignition, 21 lb. fuel injectors, 3.73's, and the Diablo flip chip with a very safe A/F ratio.

Mileage on the Engine: 64,000

Comments: I didn't build the car with fuel mileage in mind, but the car does serve me well as my daily driver. It gets way better mileage than the XR7.

My car has gotten good mileage since new. I maintain it well and drive it semi-sane most of the time.

Average Climate: Florida HOT
Mechanical Mods: k/n - chip - cooler plugs - Jmod - pully

Mileage on the Engine: 30K from a donor mustang
Comments: I get horrible mileage...4:30 gears, stock height street tires, PA valve body and some other misc mods(SCT chip, colder plugs, thermostat,ud pullies,etc).....its a gas hog. I drive it like i stole it, i roast the tires at every stop light, 85mph is usually my "average" on the interstate. But when I wake up late and gotta go to class ive been known to jsut have the foot to the floor on the interstate for the 43miles i gotta be on it one way in the mornings.

Car: 1990 3.8L V6 Base
City MPG: 17-22
Highway MPG: 29 mpg (800 mile trip from OR to NV) (didn't use the AC for that number, using the AC brings the number down to 26 or 27).
Fuel Used: 87
Average highway speed: 80
Average Climate: 75 - 100 deg
Mechanical Mods: MAC underdrive pulleys, electric fan, roller rockers, exhaust, sbout it.

As was noted above, my mileage starts dropping off the other way when I get much above 80. I have the stock 3.27 gears and 225/60 R15s. Car had headgaskets done about 5,000 miles ago and has about 104k on it.

Comments: The more I mod it the better it gets. the city mileage sucks because it needs a dyno tune and I run it rich down low so it doesnt run out of fuel in the high RPM's. Once I get it dyno tuned Im hoping for 25/36 city/hwy.
