That's not far off the mark from stock. I believe the Mark VIII/Cobra/Marauder TC are in the 2800 stall range, and a 3200 to 3500 stall really wake these up. If you want to go inexpensive, get one for a Mark VIII/Cobra/Marauder as they are the smaller diameter unit so they don't balloon at high RPM, and they have a good, slightly higher stall to help get you moving. Next up would be a good circle D unit, but they're in the $700 or so range.

2003 Explorer WAP block with Modular Head Shop "street ported" heads and Stage 2 PI NA cams, 75mm Accufab throttle body, C&L upper intake plenum, Kooks 1.75" primary/3" collector headers, 2.5" full exhaust with mid mount Magnaflow dual in/out muffler, 24lb/hr injectors, 80mm MAF, Tuning from Don @ www.lasotaracing.com, CAI that feeds from fenderwell. Jmod, 3.73:1 TL in Mark VIII carrier, Mark VIII aluminum LCAs, 93 Mark VIII driveshaft, PBR brakes (soon to be Cobras), 18x9 wheels with 35mm offset, 255/40/ZR18 Tires, Front and Rear strut/shock bracing, GR-2 shocks, Eibach 1.5" springs, 1989 SC front and rear sway bars.

I picked up a 2800 stall TC from dirtydog in the $400-$500 range (don't remember exact amount). If all your doing is swapping out the TC and nothing else (i.e. rear diff gears, tranny, etc.) then you don't "need" a tune. Once you start stacking up the upgrades then it would be worth a tune.

What size is it?
If it's the stock 11" size, it will still have issues with high RPM where it will balloon. The ad was somewhat vague.

If you want just a mild bump, go Mark VIII/Cobra/Mach1/Marauder. They're all the same converter, but because they're on an engine that revs to 6000+, they're the smaller diameter and won't balloon.
