Mustang Based Lincoln RWD Coupe Coming?

Arriving in 2016 or 2017

Lincoln's revival plans could include a rear-wheel drive coupe based on the Ford Mustang.
This report comes from Ford Inside News who mentions it all depends on the success of the 2013 MKZ and/or 2014 MKD (or whatever name the compact CUV will get). If these two will fail, Ford will probably decide to kill Lincoln.
If those two vital models will be a success, a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln RWD coupe will be unveiled towards the end of 2015 as a 2016MY or 2017MY. It will follow other new models such as the MKS, Navigator, MKX and a Ford Explorer-based model.
FIN mentions the coupe could be powered by a V6 2.9-liter EcoBoost engine and will have a slightly longer wheelbase than the Mustang. It will be developed exclusively as a coupe, but Lincoln is reportedly thinking of a full-size RWD flagship model based on the next-gen Mustang to come out before the end of the decade.

Please dont call it a capri.
That name conjures up a really ugly european sub-compact.

Cougar would be nice though.

... This would be Lincolns answer to the Caddy. Unfortunatly it's going to just be a rebadged Mustang. (If this thing is actually produced.)

I really wish Ford/LMC would come up with something new to compete with Caddy.

Thank You, Joe!

Ron, I certainly hope they do something besides just a re-badge like you're saying; they do need to complete with the Caddy CTS which I'm sure is why they are doing this.

It's kind of Deja-Vu with our cars! In the mid-90s, they made the Mark VIII based on the Bird/Coug, now they are going to do a Mark ??? based on the Ford Mustang!

The convertible reminds me of a Retro-Bird.

Probably will name it the MK CP I like it, I say. Build it as Is along with a four door and a station wagon variant

Lincoln had the Capri name first. But you're likely right, Ford probably isn't dumb enough to bring it back considering the Indian giving they did with the Zephyr name

Oh and this whole story is fake. All of the non doctored pics are based on mid 2000s concept cars and others are heavily photoshopped 05-09 Mustang press pictures so they aren't even relevant.

They should just axe the whole division

I thought this story looked questionable...

however the OP did cite no fewer than 5 sources ...

What's your point of referece to say "this whole story is fake"?

It's funny ya'll say that. That was my first instinct, that's why I kept searching all those other places.

Then I figured, eh, even if it is BS, it's interesting enough to post !

I also thought a couple of those pics were pretty cool! There were more, but they looked crappy, imho.

While I do remember the car you are talking about, when I hear Capri I think of this.

My buddy had one of those and it was a freakin' Rocket! I too, think Capri as just a Mercury version of a Mustang.

I actually prefer the previous German-import Capris myself. Still wish Ford had used that V6 and 5-speed in the Fairmont Futura as a sporty motor.

But eh.

They are going to continue using that awful MK_ until they run out of letters. Then they will call it MK1000 or MK3577.. Actually, those names are better. I can never get the names right on the Lincolns.
