One person nailed it on the head. They chose this engine for several reasons. The main reason being it was the only engine in the stable that meets the displacement requirements for Le Mans that would be competitive. The rules require homologation so the street car must use it as well. For all those saying it's only a V6 and it can't handle any more power than it will have stock, I'd suggest you go take a look at some GT-Rs.

There is no unpainted plastic on the car, it is carbon fiber.

One mentioned afterburner tail lights and it's funny you mention that. The center hole of the tail lights are the dumps for the wastegates.

BTW, the GT350R has carbon. Fiber. Wheels. Let that sink in.

For those of you who are somehow upset that it has sox cylinders....so does the McLaren and the Grand National. So, blah.
Carbon Fiber Wheels:
At ~$15-16K (see example from the same mfg for a vette here http://www.halltechsystems.com/Carbo...els-p/cr-9.htm), I expect that you better have some serious locks on your wheels or every hoodlum with a rusted out mustang and the same bolt pattern will be eyeing your rubber.

Apparently, these folks were also involved in developing the wheels for Keonigsegg.
--------------------------
As far as the McLaren is concerned, unless you are talking about some car by that bankrupt domestic tuner ASC McLaren (which may actually be all 5.0s), the McLarens weren't V6s.

Mclaren MP4-12C/650s/P1 = 3.8L TT V8
http://www.leftlanenews.com/new-car-buying/mclaren/p1/

McLaren F1 = BMW 6.1L V12
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_F1

McLaren/Mercedes SLR = 5.5 Litre supercharged V8

All:
Hey, I DID find one non-V8 McLaren from the "real" McLaren Automotive. Apparently, there was a collaboration with Ford back in 1980 to make a stupidly expensive Mustang that is considered by some to be the first SVO vehicle.
THAT car was based on a 2.3T inline-4 engine.

For reference, $25K in 1980 dollars is equivalent to $71.8K in 2014 dollars. That's almost GT350R pricing.

-98 Mark VIII LSC, Procharger P600b, TR3650 swap and 3.73s.
-70 Torino GT Fastback project car. Needs EFI and a manual trans, but I'm not sure what motor to go with yet.
