2007 SC Shootout thoughts and opinons please!
First I want to thank everyone who attended the Shootout this year. We had a great turn out with a full 16 car field of V8's. Now the main reason I'm making this post is to get feedback from the V8 guys who attended. I have heard that there were at least a couple people bummed out about not getting to run heads up and I understand that but I want to use this as a learning experience to make the event better for you.
So please post your thoughts if you attended and then I'll put up some ideas for you to think about. Thanks! David |

Dave,
On behalf of the Mid Atlantic MN12, I'd like to thank you for putting together such an enormous happening. I just wish I knew my schedule earlier so that I could register well in advance (as do many other V8 owners this year) We realize you want to include our cars in this event as much as the SC's. I hope we are able to do our part and register on time next year so that the Committee has enough notice to plan on how many V8 classes are appropriate to satisfy the majority of those who attend the race. Looking forward to next year. Jim

Thank YOU Dave.
![]() I was just happy to be part of it all. I'm not sure how you'd organize a heads up V8 class with cars so far apart in ET. Usually the faster guys just hate loosing to a slower car in the brackets and the slower cars don't stand a chance heads up against the more heavily modded cars. I guess you could try a handicapped competition index(ET index from the quickest of 3 qualifying runs) with a breakout allowance? ![]() |

Classes have been talked about and I've got some great input from a variety of people but it all comes down to who'd attend...
Count on the same time same place next year. I can't lock in the date until after the track starts it's 2008 schedule which begins after the first of the year but I can be 99% sure that it will be Oct 4-5, 2008. With a website up and running ahead of the game this year we will begin pre-registration as soon as we can confirm the track date. As we get V8 pre-registrations in we will begin finalizing the classes. What I'm anticipating this year is that we will put several classes out there and allow people to pre-register for those classes. When we have 4 people pre-registered, the class will be made official. If your class doesn't materialize by a certain date we will re-align the classes as necessary and give everyone the chance to pick an alternate. This is all discussion at this point but expect things to shape up along these lines after the first of the year. So #1 is for us to announce the firm date early enough for people to commit, and #2 is to get your pre-registration form in as soon as possible so we can start planning better/sooner. Sound good to everyone? Thanks for the props guys, as you all noticed, everyone had plenty of time for as many time trials as they wanted and eliminations went smoothly. If nothing else it's almost worth the price of admission just to be able to make use of the track and not be bothered by Jr. dragsters, bikes, pickup trucks, and all the normal stuff you deal with on weekly track days at home. Glad to see all those who made it happen this year. Next year will be as "better yet" as we can make it. David |

I too would love to see more v8 cars in attendance. I'd like to see 100 cars racing total. Other than that I think the setup is perfect and there couldn't be a better group of guys and gals there. The setup for everything couldn't be better.
Dave and Connie if there is anything I can do to help let me know. Alan

We had the 2005 SC Shootout in OKC which is nearly the geographic center of the USA and we had one of our worst turnouts there. Seriously, Ohio is the middle between the mid west and the east coast which is where 90% of all MN12's seem to be. It won't get any better than this. |

Sounds like a good plan, Dave. More notice on dates, classes, etc., is the only thing I can think of that can even be improved upon. The location, setup, and time of year seems to be perfect, as witnessed by the participation over the last two years. Definitely keep it in Dayton. I'd really like to see a 11.5 or 12.0 index V8 class come together.
Oh, it would be nice to find a hotel with more "trailer friendly" parking than this year's was. The hotel we stayed at in 2006 was actually better in that respect. -Rod

Dave everything was fine with the race but the show we didt know anything when the cars were being picked , most of the people were at the dyno watchin cars and everyone had a blank slip on the window . Thats one thing i heard people talk about , but i dont care about the car show it was a great event overall , i wish more people would have ran in the v8 class but maybe next year .

The car show was kind of mixed up I would agree. The voting was here and there with the dyno across the street. Maybe next year we can reserve the parking lot just for the club for we're not fighting the local public for spots. Hopefully we'll see more V8's next year, I think some of the leadership on here (TCCoA) should really get the message out to the V8 guys to be part of this exciting meet for a better appearance. I had a great time with my Dad and some members on here. I just wish I could have been on time and stayed longer to enjoy all of the festivities. I would like to thank Dave and Connie for going out of there way to make this happen.
God Bless,

Car show was a bit disorganized this year unfortunately, I have to take partial blame for that. The lot in that park was pretty much empty last year when we arrived, this year there were quite a few local people using it, messing up our plans. We could only reserve the park picnic area itself, not the parking lot.
Anyway, the dyno shop plans to be moved in to a much larger facility for next year, with ample room for parking. So we're hoping to be able to hold the car show there as well. That way all the cars will be in the same area for the whole day. If that can happen, it will go a long way toward this portion of the event running more smoothly for 2008. cheers Ed N.

I forgot to add one more thing....sounds kinda gay. How about some name tags or something? I only knew what Rod and Mike (Phatbird) looked like cause of the photos they have posted up in past threads, but everyone else was a stranger until you talked to em.

I just remembered one thing that I found to be a bit unfair this year. It is quite reasonable for owners of MN12/FN10 cars to be able to run their other vehicles in case their SC/XR7/LX car was not able to make the event. What I didn't think was fair were cars other than MN12/FN10 running during eliminations in the bracket class. Maybe we can pair them to run against each other with or without trophies, but I don't think they should be mixed with the regular bracket class cars. Just a suggestion.

Well based on all I've heard about the shootout, it was an awesome time.
Since the wife and I are done having offspring, and I'll have some $$ to throw at the SC for this coming year, maybe I'll be able to make it this time!

This was my second Shootout, and they were both great events, well organized for the most part, a good turnout, good company and lots of great cars. Dave and the commitee should be congratulated again. My car ran like crap (found out later I had almost no tranny fluid left-henceforth the 2.6 60 ft time). I know this beast has a 14 in it, but I wont have it for next years Shootout.
The V8 turnout was disappointing, to say the least though. At one time prior to the event, we had a ****load of cars coming, but they seemed to vanish. The V8 guys and gals should know that there is no animosity, no denigrating, or any of the stuff that has been dicussed on this site before. I dont know how people can say any of those things, when they dont show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have this already booked for next year. I hope my car sells soon, so I can start my search for the S/C I so desparately want. I've even started buying mods for it, and am looking forward to a chip and tune from MR. Dalke in the spring. BOOK YOUR TRIP TO THE 2008 SHOOTOUT NOW. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY YOU DID.

You know this thread was about 2007 right?
I was there and it was larger than this year. I am in hopes that the economy will improve and more people will make it this year. I really don't like to see the SC shootout compared to a mustang meet. No meaning any offense I will say it takes a special kind of idiot to mod a SC. Most mustang guys sell their cars before doing the work required to keep these cars on the road. The people are completely a different class. The banquet is a prime example. With a mustang meet the people know who they will be setting with when they go in. The shootout we just go in and sit down, meet some new people they are all friendly. Alan
