Vlim??
the 95 4.6 Tbirds wouldn't happen to have a VLIM (variable length intake manifold) would they? : / i have some weird hesitation problems most of the time, but not all the time, but everything else runs fine, MAF's been changed countless times... no intake leaks that i can find, no check engine lights, changed the O2's, tranny seems to shift fine. new airfilter, no clogs. it just drives like i'm dragging an anchor most of the time, and some times it will take off like a rocket. i know some of the Fords from around 95 had this damn VLIM's and they would get stuck closed sometimes. just a thought "shrug"

nah, those plugs are new bosch platinums, and the best wires they had at Oriellys.... im at a loss, changed everything on the engine, but the engine itself and it has good compression on all cyclinders. you name it... TPS, MAF, IAC, PCV and vacumme lines, idler/tensioner pullies, waterpump, checked the fuel pressure and flow, changed the fuel filter, run a whole thing of lucas injector cleaner through over about 6 tank fill-ups, i even run good Mobil1 or Castrol SYN oil, and the motorcraft filter... if ive forgotten anything, chances are ive changed it...
its been getting better since i have started running that gas at shell though... that nitrogen stuff... why i was wondering if maybe i had clogged valves or a sticky VLIM; since she dose suck a little oil through the valve seals. just kindof annoying, becuase i can drive her around for 3 years like a peice of ****, and every now and then she'll scare the pants off me when i push the throttle half down, "like usual" and do a smokeing burnout. |

Your intake is not variable length.
I found a weak fuel pump causing a problem like this on a car once. You said you checked the fuel pressure and flow, but what I've done before (it's ghetto looking, but works) is hook a pressure gauge to the fuel rail, run it to the wiper cowl, and tape it to where you can see it through the windshield. The car I did this on had good pressure when tested in a shop, but only had problems when driven, and it was always sporadic. It could run like hell and the gauge would show good pressure, but as soon as it would bog down that gauge would drop.

my fuel pressur guages are long enough so i could hook it up and stuff it under the hood, so it sat on the windshield. still within limits under load, even full throttle. like i said, ive pretty much tried everything... im actually thinking its trans related, maybe the first gear isnt fully locking... leaking pressure someplace. just a thought, but its all i got left. i might just flush out the reg fluid i put in a while back, and go for the synthetic stuff see what happens.
oh, and dose anyone know if Moog sells a upper balljoint for the birds with a grease zerk on it... my uppers are shot(expecially the pass side) and im looking for new ones, but the ford OEM's i know wont have zerks... or the Oriellys, el' cheepo ones. |

Ford ones may or may not have the zerks. The last two motorcrafts I have bought came with grease zerks. You can also get them in magnum suspension (cheap moog), moog, and even duralast. The majority of those would come with zerks.
You car feels weak because you need some gears I couldnt always do a burnout on command with my old gears and open carrier (stock engine too). The reason I bought my bird is that it would burn the right rear tire for almost a whole block when I first test drove it. I thought this was awesome since my 92 V6 was so weak I could barely squeal tires when I took off. I think 3.73 or 4.10 open rear end will give you some serious one-tire-fire! If you go traction lock you will spin less, but kick the ass to the side more often...it is fun. Have you also thought about getting a chip? It will remove the tip-in timing retard that I have heard so much about. Search the classifieds for a chip. I have an old inject tech chip and love it!-Rob

its not just spinning the tires, i could care less if i can do that. i cant even keep up with other cars out of stoplights without getting into 3 or 4k RPM, and that even if it will go that high off the line. usually pukes if you floor it, and stays below 2k till your going about 35-45MPH then it will rap up to 5k. (why i tested the fuelpump and changed the filter)
and its not openrear i know that; its a tractionlock, ive had the cover off to clean out the sludge and change the RTV so i could put SYN90 in there, and that additive stuff for the clutch. and i know spinning both tires will be more difficult, but ive done it befor on one of those rare times when she runs right. wont spin em' for long, but i left two good 5 or 6 foot black marks and a ton of white smoke outside my house.(one a little shorter than the other :P) i could probably brake stand if it wasnt 4wheel brakes "shrug". eventually i think ill just get my hands on a 97 trans, rebuild and Jmod it, toss that in there and see what happens. 138000 miles on it anyway, about time for it to shrapnel on me. expecially since the fluid that was in it when i bought it was low, and brown as mud. |
