I hear ya XR7X2.
Don't worry about being another slow car, because there is no way I am even going to attempt to push it through there, or anywhere for tht matter. I am going for the drive, not the DRIVE. As long as we stay behind ssrogers, we'll be just fine And yep, we got a good inch or so and it is still snowing here at 9pm. It is slicker than crap and the doughnuts were great ![]()

People around here cannot drive in snow, even the one inch stuff.
I heard bunches of sirens about 4PM today, I live close to Ye Old Steak House. That made me get outside and put on the snow tires. I don't like to do that for a one day snow, but they are much safer. My truck will hardly spin a tire with the real snow tires. I wish the work truck(USPS) had them. I hate that GM POS big white box. At least I can get to work safely. Stay warm everyone,

I will be in my Corvette, but I Always keep a little in reserve. I had cougar_fan with me the time I probably went as fast as I ever have through the Gap and I had another friend in a stock '89 5.0 Mustang keep up with me handling wise. I had the horsepower to put some gap on him, but he pulled into the gas station much sooner than I expected him to. It was only a few seconds after I had parked. We Were Moving, but I personally don't feel it was reckless.
If this is your first time through you do not need to try to keep up with me. Nobody should need to go faster than me. I don't care what car you're in. If you want to that's fine too, but like cougar_fan said, stay behind me and you'll be fine. |

I've been through the Gap on my CBR at a pace that was fun and others passed me like I was standing still. I still had alot in reserve, but the road is definately a challenge. I remember this old man on a KTM motard bike (dirt bike with street tires) passing everyone. To those that have never been down this road, it's my advise to take it slow at first until you get the lay of the land. I was up there once when a tractor trailer came through. That was a nightmare. It would take up both lanes of the road and both shoulders in alot of the corners. There's nothing that will make you stop like a wall of truck in front of you with nowhere to go.

Alright, well it is the new year and we're about 2 1/2 months away from the cruise. I wanted to ask anyone if they had any comments, concerns, complaints, etc . . . I know here of late we've gotten a little off track . . . which happens when your best freind is posting uhumm cough ssrogers . . . But honestly, does anyone have anything concerning the cruise on their mind. I know one thing that I have thought about is an evening dinner after the allotted time for more Gap runs. I think it would be a good time and could spark some interesting conversation. Thats about it. Post what is on your mind.

My folks have a camper permanently on Douglas Lake just on the other side of Knoxville, so as long as the weather's OK I will be staying there.

Ok, here it comes . . .
I went to the local tire place this weekend. I got two new tires on the rear (and after the recent snow fall I wish I would have done it last week), and found out just how bad my strut bushings were. Both sets on both sides of the front end are NON-EXISTENT. I knew something was up but I just kept putting if off. So, now I've gotta get these replaced by April. Definitely not looking forward to doing this myself without a lift, but I refuse to pay $65 (x2) for bushing to frame and $50 (x2) to arm plus $250 for labor. Yeah, not happening. Gotta love the shop mark-ups. Oh well, gotta do it if I want to take it through the skyway ![]()

After studying it for a bit, I say yes, we can do this as long as we have jack stands and a jack other than the one for your spare, although that would do. Level ground, preferably inside. If we need to, Tommy does have a press and he is usually out in his shop on Saturdays, that's assuming we could have it disassembled Friday night. Just let me know when you feel you have all the parts together and I'll come on up. I believe we can handle this as far as taking it apart and putting it back together. It's needing a press that I'm worried about.

By the way y'all, even if the cougar isn't in shape to hit the skyway, I WILL still be in attendence one way or another. I will either ride with SSROGERS in the vette, or he has graciously proposed another alternative
. . . I just wanted y'all to know that this event will happen regardless.
