Jim, I'm glad they worked out for you. Just don't get caught in the rain with those two bald tires. They should be good for burnouts, though... Also, other people have fit a 255 width tire without clearance issues on the front. Just a thought for when you get new ones.

Nick:
Thanks for the help on the Cutlass today. A couple more evenings of work should get it back on the road. I'll eyeball the alignment tomorrow, then start finishing up the little things.

Local Racing the Next Two Weekends; Pick One and Let's Go

Next Saturday, September 22, Houston Motorsports Park is having a special event on their 3/8 mile paved oval. Modifieds, Late Models, and Stock Cars. $5 tickets available at Fiesta, with $1 beer, hot dogs, and colas at the track. They charge for parking, so we should carpool if we go:

Or, in two weeks, September 29, the Baytown Dirt track is having a sprint car race. Always a lot of fun to watch. $18 admission.

hey guys, the ole lady has given me the go ahead on new mufflers for the 97 mark viii and tips. So I'm debating between spintech, bassani and borla...which do you guys think would be better and why????
And NO I will not be putting magnaflow, flowmaster or others. But I would consider the cherry bomb mufflers.

Thanks

Just replacement mufflers? Borla. They're expensive.

Yeah, borla and bassani are expensive. And honestly they don't sound as aggressive as I'd like. The spintech's sound awesome and I'm really considering them, but the cherry bomb's don't sound as raspy.

http://www.cherrybomb.com/sound-pad.html

go here and listen to the cherry bomb extreme. they sound great and make the 4.6 sound deep and torquey. Most exhaust don't do that.

However the borla stinger exhaust sounds incredibly sexy. But I don't know which borla mufflers are used in their stinger systems.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/7...3e00fae29d.htm

And bassani sounds good also, but then my car would sound like most friggen mustangs on the road.

here's one of spintech's setup, listen to the red mustang at the end of the goofy video.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/c...10015b7145.htm

So...which one sounds Mark VIII worthy????

justin, in case you arent aware, that red stang is a 5.0, but it gives you a v8 sound either way. i would go with the spintech prostreets if i were you. ill never go with any other muffler.

out of those choices i would only do the bassani. which on the 4.6's has more of a raspy sound when coupled with a full on exhaust treatment. meaning headers all the way back. but if just muffler replacement only then they should be a lil more mundane. the borlas are more of a chevy thing. ive heard a few stangs running around here withn borla and too me they sounded weak for what they were. spintech(prostreet series) are decent. the sportsmans are ok at best. which actually brings me to ask why not magnaflows. they are the medium between all your choices and at about 2800-3000 open up and have a nice sound to them. there a couple of markviii owners out in katy who run them and i really like how they sound. plus its kinda hard to judge exhaust from a stang to a mark cuase of the wheel base difference. the longer the run on the exhaust some of the reasonance is lost. so you wont have the exact same sound as a stang. i believe theres some good exhaust clips over at lincolnsvscadillacs, and lincolns of distinction. or if you cant wait and save a few more pennies there's geno over at lincolnmotorsports who specializes in markviii exhaust, and other components.

also local vendor ninosport out of houston has a sound site here. http://www.mustangexhaust.com/

some of the clips are down because of redoing the site, but checkout what they have.

I'm new to the area, just moved to Baytown last week. I moved down from Dallas (which I only lived in since March of '07) and there from Ohio.

Does anyone know of anyone or where I could get a totaled/wrecked/un-titled mark viii? I have a 1992 Cougar that I'm planning on using for the DOHC swap.

You looking to get the whole car? PnP have engines and such around all the time. But being in Baytown you might be able to find one cheap.

And welcome to the best chapter on tccoa!
