Oil pan replacement

My oil pan needs to be replaced. Long story, got cracked because my neighbor chewed up the dirt road I live on, he's paying for the repair.

Does that involve lifting the engine? The guy at the shop thought it might, and if it does then I want to do motor mounts at the same time.

Are there any other good things to do while the shop is replacing the pan?

Yes, to replace the pan you either have to lift the engine or drop the subrame.

Personally, if a guy in a shop doesn't know if you have to move the motor or subframe then I'd go to another shop.....I can't think of many vehicles that allow you to change the pan without doing any major work.

actually, it was more me that was unsure than him. It's a good shop.

I ordered the motor mounts, so hopefully a smoother ride is in store for me; in addition I am getting new shocks in a month or so

How much did the motor mounts cost ya? Are they stock replacement?

You own an SC yet you live on a dirt road! How dare you!

The mounts ARE NOT stock replacements, they are solid rubber, like the mn12performance ones but not from them. I got them from paul at blue tongue motorsports for less than mn12.

So yeah, my neighborhood road turns into dirt a half mile from the main road, when there are 2 more houses on it, then my driveway is pavement again.

It's a quarter mile of dirt road. eh

Paul is a good guy, I talked to him personally to get these... and he reccomended the Bilsteins instead of the Tokico replacement shocks.

I think there is a bolt under the oil pump through the front cover and into the oil pan as well. You definately need to remove the pump and you may need to pull apart a large portion of the front of the motor to get at it.

No need to remove front cover or oil pump. As you can see in these pictures, all bolts may be taken out of the oil pan with those parts left on:

to get the car inspected and back on the road, it needed
motor mounts (the old passenger side one fell out when they supported the engine and took the weight off of the old one)
oil pan (cracked from contacting the frame, caused by the bump and broken motor mounts)
rear tires (too worn for inspection)
front bushings (not sure why, just worn out, needed for inspection)
new bolt on drivetrain (they thought I needed new U joints but no)

finally getting the car back today after almost 3 weeks.

Thanks George for stepping in I noticed last night that the front cover bolt misses the oil pan as well.

What a pisser it would have been to pull all that crap only to find out you didn't need to.

There are two bolts for the pan that go into the front cover. I know several people have cracked the lower edges of the cover by not removing one of these bolts and trying to pry off the cover! One is very hard to see. Now that would really "torque" you off big time!

George....in those pics, is that stud girdle custom? Does it all fit into the oil pan without too many modifications? And.....where can I get one?

It's a Coy Miller piece. (http://www.coymiller.com/) It was installed with my Stage II motor. As far as I know, it only requires mods to the end of the dipstick tube.
