start up problem

My 90 35th has a problem starting up sometimes. When you try to start it every morning it bobles around 1,000 to 500 and any where between till it gets lower and lower and just dies. Then when you turn the key to start it for a second time, it starts and runs fine like nothing had ever happend. Also if you dont start it for days(I got a mustang and have been driving that) it has no problem at all. If you give it gas wile it has the problem it will rev like normal and correct it self and run fine. What gives?

Heh, my Limited Edition 4.6 does that too, not familiar with the SC's but I would say it's your IAC valve. Idle air control valve, sometimes called idle air bypass valve. Try taking it off and cleaning it out with carb cleaner, if it doesn't help then you'll need to replace it.

Thanks for the information hotbird. I will have to try that to see if it makes any difference. Also with my problem, after it does it once that day it useually doesn't do it again the rest of the day.

My 92 SC did some similar tricks. It was the ignition module

The most common reason is unmetered air getting into the system so check to make sure the PCV lines are fully connected. Especially the one that goes from the intake hose to the drivers valve cover. It usually routes under the fuel lines, harness, SC snout, and other things and its not one piece and easily comes loose just by changing the air filter. Mine would idle fine if I had the AC or Defroster On, which increases the idle speed to keep it from dying. It could also be the back one, but check the front first b/c its more common. Good luck
