Smile Old guy syaing Hi....XR7 to GTP

Well don't know if anyone remembers me but I used to have a 90 XR& I sold that and bought a new car. Left the MN-12 and Ford.

The new ride is the SC's arch rival the Pontiac GTP. Well hate to break it but after being on both sides the GTP wins hands down. Way more modern and resonds ten-fold easier then the SC, not to mention parts are so much cheaper for the GTP.

Mine is a balck 2000 4-door. Ran it stock and went 14.7 @ 96 with a 2.47 60'. that was back in November right after I got it. Now I have a few things. 3.25 pulley which takes teh boost from 7 psi to 13.5 psi, a fender well CAI, IAT sesor mod to advance timing 3 degrees, and exhaust cutout. All this cost approx. $500, and I ran last Friday night aganst my friend's 02 Mustang GT with Superchips Tuner programing, CAI, catback, Eibach Springs, and BFG Comp TA drag radials and he went 13.7 @ 100 for two runs consistant. I ran the GTP and pulled two back to back runs of
13.7 @101. Not bad for $500 in perfrormance, shoot most performance parts for SC start at $500 and don't see close to the gain I picked up.

Well, talk to ya'll later,
Brad

congratulations, a few of my friends have modded gtps and they are quick. it appears though, that you have posted this thread to try and get people to make negative responses, which is really too sad. go ahead and flame me all you want but i prefer my big, primative , rear wheel drive bird.
if you want to post the merrits of your new found power, why dont you try the gtp board.......or the ls1 board.....or the supra board.....or the viper board......or the corvette board?

NO you're wrong I was just joking back at you for your last post. I was here long before you and the post was not to brag just rather to keep some of the old guys that I used to talk to up to date on the new car sit. If I really wanted to flame you I could think of much better things. Rather than continue this petty bickering lets just stop, and be friends. Have a good day,

sounds like a good plan to me. one thing that i really like about my buddy's gtp is that if he just holds it in first, nails it then immeaditely lets off the gas you can hear the blower wind up, then wind down; it's pretty schweeet.

Congrats man...definitely got your self a quick car....everyone always underestimates them....I myself wouldnt trade my car for one or leave the ford family but I was tryin to convince the wife to by one so I could see what it was all about....and 500 bucks for 13.7s you just cant beat that....nice nice lil sleeper...

just so you know it diddnt seem like you posted for negative responses either...

Who did you sell the cat to?? some one else in FL....does he know of the SCCoA
we always could use another member, especially with an XR7. Too bad we couldnt get you to join up now its too late!!

The guys name is Sam he lives in Daytona too. He hangs out with the car club I'm in so I get to see the car often. He doesn't keep it as clean as I used to, but its OK still. He knows about the SCCoA he said he posts on there sometimes, but I'm not sure under what name.

Cool.....I might even show up for that. Would ya'll mind having a GM amongst the Birds? Either way I'll let Sam know about the show. I'm sure Dan (real nice 89 Black SC from Ormond Beach) is going to be heading over that way but I'll let him know as well.

keep the transmission oil cool in that transaxle or it will go south on you.

The gtp is a neat little car, my friend has one that he drives during the winter, and they are pretty fun.

If they weren't wrong wheel drive, I would like them alot more.

That is the one big down-fall to the car. It makes the launch soo much harder. Lets put it this way on the street at 25-30mph I can hit it, and it'll light the tires right up, cool, but not good for the traction/tire fund situation.

Brad, head on over to the SCCoF page and chime in for the Waterford Lakes meet. We'll all be there, well most of us. We won't hold the Pontiac against you... I used to live in Edgewater, but now I'm down here in Melbourne for college.

I wouldnt expect to get a good responce from that..My view on GTP

Typical GM..Strong motor in A pos car..Not flaming here but its reality..

Not saying that because I own an SC or a stang or anything like that..Even a highly modded GTP would have a problem keeping up with any of my cars..FWD Torque steer and poor quality is not my thing

Going for broke!!!!

Ive seen GTP's run 10 second quarters. Highly modded, of course.

Ive yet to see an SC hit 10s. Ive driven a 13 second GTP. Didnt have much in the way of torque steer.

He said it for me.....there are already over 3x as many 11sec and 10sec GTPs than there are SC's. AS far as Stangs go....different car, but then there is the LS1 and we know who wins there. It takes a good amount of work to get a Stang to be fast, used to do a lot of work on my buddy's 93 5.0 and now 01 4.6.
AS far as torque steer, not at all bad, $1000 in just bolt-ons (no N2O) and mid to high 12's are so easy to hit in a GTP, and thats just scratching the surface.

As far as poor build quality, I'm not even going to begin to go there. Neither of these two manufacturers are close to a Toyota or Nissan. I replaced quite a bit on my 90 XR7 when I had it, and the same goes fro the stang. The 3.8 in the GTP is just an updated version of the Grand National's buick 3.8, which handles power very well (built one of these too). I haven't heard of many problems from the GTP board ClubGP.com except that the Trans will go if you do heavy burnout since there is no limited slip stock.

This is the Merc's engine after it was pulled at 121,973 back in December of 02' to do headgaskets. We ended up going through the whole motor. It was in excelent shape.

Ive yet to see a 10 second GTP or a 10 sec SC..Quickest SC I seen did an 11.1(fully loaded with AC and full interior)..Havnt seen a quicker GTP then that although I know there is one that had a turbo and another with a whipple..Not sure how fast they actually had gone...Hard for me to believe you seen many 10 sec and 11 sec GTP's..Not saying they dont exist..But I frequent Englishtown quite a bit and have yet to see one..

But what I said still holds true IMO..GTP is a typical GM product with poor quality and a strong running motor.

As for stangs..Give me an 87-93 stang and some slicks and your talking mid to high 13's stock..Ive owned many a Stang....As for my SC..I do plan on running in the tens with it...24 psi of whipple power says I might..a 125 shot says I definately do..

I'm a lover of all cars but I call it as it is. Plus I dont like it when people insult ford products:O)

Take a hike bro. We don't need you bustin people's balls on here. You like your Mustang...great go bother someone else. There are evidently other people on here that know of some 10 sec GTP, and quite a few 11 sec cars. And as far as Englishtown goes, I'll be there with a 9 sec 87 Turbo-T Regal this summer. So bring your Mustang and 10 sec SC and a grand to hand me when I let you see what as poor build quality GM can do. Peace and get off my thread.

And the day someone cant defend a TBIRD on a Tbird site..Well I dont know:O)

Have a nice day..YOUR tread is yours again::shakkin head::

The new grand prixxs are really nice. i am more of a gm guy myself. they are not too badly priced either. if my parents waited and did not buy their Imala LS i would have told them to get a grand prixx. i once priced it and found that the base impala with the 3.4 costs as much as a base grand prixx with the 3.8 and more options like a floor shift.

Hey blown merc, will see you on the side of the road running that much boost. It wasnt long after my friend put a lager pully on till it went boom. Keep in mind that you merc was what 13 years old and then you hop into a 3 year old car. Come back in ten years and we will see how its holding up. As far a cost per mod what did you pay for that 2000 GTP? $15,000. It all boils down to money my friend. So my 04 cobra is hard to mod. I have been around for a long time too but I dont bash anyone for having a SC. In fact I have 4 now. Were sorry you went to Gm but leave us poor ford guys alone.

Im kinda lost now....where did he start bad mouthin our cars??? he obviously drove the XR7 and the GTP and kinda knows what hes talkin about...

I didnt even see him start flaming...you guys started flaming him first...Calling his car a POS and stuff...

Its true that the GTP responds better to mods and is cheaper parts wise....if you do your homework you would know...know your competion, ya know? Oh well...what can you do.

Later guys,

Thanks Jerremy I wasn't too sure where I bad mouthed any SC's. I loved the Merc, it handled real good and had way less body roll in the corners thn this new car. The car kicked *** and got tons of complements too for being clean and rare. I was just posting about going to meet with the FL SCCoA when that guy began flaming me. I like Ford cars, the SC will always be dear to me as my first fast car. As far as the GTp I paid 12K for it and from what I've read they are very reliable, just like the SC if you're gonna turn up the boost you have to get that extra air out and I've handled that as well. Well I'm not gonna waste time arguing pointless comments so if you have a legit question or comment post up other than that I'm gone.

I know you have an electric cutout, but perhaps you should look into replacing the Ubend in the exhaust?

Oh... as far as the transmission blowing, the only problems I have heard have been related to the input shaft, which is pretty much the only weak point in the thing. Other than that, its indestructable.

The GTP's I've seen turn 10's were, yes, turbocharged. But I DID say highly modified. The L67 blocks can handle insane amounts of power.

Dont get me wrong... I want an SC. Always have. But GTP's are great cars nonetheless.

I just have a hard on for forced induction six cylinders.
