Auto Shifter Knob Question

I accidentally pulled my shifter knob off my '90 SC. It is not staying on now. It is loose and the spring is keeping it elevated on the shaft. What part made it stay tight on the shaft. Help me please?

not sure how to fix that you mean the button on the side right? I have an extra shifter, I'll give it you just pay shipping if you're interested

When you re-inserted the shifter knob, did you depress the sifter button?

The button has to be pressed in when you put the knob back on the stick.

I believe I did. Is there anything inside the shifter grip other than the button and the spring? Any locking clip or something? Maybe something fell out that I didn't see.

Thanks,
