New exhaust setup!!!! (56k warning)

I finally found a shop to do my exhaust for me. I now have no cats with true 2.5" duals with an x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers. Check it out:

video (the wife was driving and scared to get on it, so that is why there is very little full throttle ):

Nice sound. Good looking install too. Did you consider Magnaflow's resonator?

did you port the exhaust manifolds? I love your setup it looks totally pro and that bumper cover matches perfectly what kind is that? I love to do that but I need cats though and I rather do the mid mount muff but it looks like you spared little expense.

The guy that did it said that we would do it this way at first, and then if I thought it was too loud he could go back and add resonators.

95xbird,
I actually thought it was a fair price at only $440 parts and labor. He originally quoted me $860 if I wanted high flow cats, I didn't realize how expensive high flow cats were, so we just decided to leave them off

Splattered,
Unfortunately they are still the factory manifolds. He had to use a small coupling that went from the 2.25 to 2.5" pipe to accommodate the manifolds. The ground effects are the Razzi kit. I have it on the entire car.

The sound is a little "raspy" at WOT, but I am getting use to it and think I will leave it as is without resonators. Thanks for the compliments. If anyone is in/near the Upstate of South Carolina and wants their exhaust done I would definitely recommend this shop. If you notice int he pics they welded "TMS" into the pipe. That is the initials of the shop, Troy's Muffler Shop. They are proud enough of their work to put their name on it.

HERE is the shop's website.

I'll be getting mine done there too. Thanks for the great reference Kevin. Who do I ask for so I can work with the same guy that you did.

I'll be going with the resonator. That's just to loud for me.

The guy that actually handled mine was Troy (I assume this is the owner since it is Troy's Muffler Shop). All the piping is aluminized pipe. I forgot to even ask that before he did it, but when I picked it up and asked he said that is what they use for most of the custom jobs. It took them about 3 hours on a Saturday to get it done. If any of you head down here to get it done and do not want to wait at the shop I can come get you and you can hang out at my house or whatever while thy do the work as long as I am in town and do not have anything else going on.

Was $440 including the mufflers? And, did he give you a quote for doing it with a resonator?

$440 did include the mufflers, and no i did not get a quote with resonators. I am going to call him Monday though and see what he might charge to add them. My wife and i drove it around town this weekend and it is quite loud. It has a 'raspy" sound to it above like 2800 RPM that I wonder if resonators will get rid of. You can probably call the shop and ask Troy what he would charge to do the same setup as mine including mufflers.

SuperCoupePerformance sells this resonator for $119 it's a dual 2.5" in/out with an X-Pipe perforated core.

I wonder if Troy carries anything like this?

the tone of the exhaust might mellow out a little after a couple hundred miles...
another way to get rid of the rasp is to task the cai out for now...keep it stock, then put it back on...i know mine always changed the sound a little.

Trunk Monkey: I currently have the same setup as the second pic and i don't think its loud enough anymore. Without any power from the engine it sounds odd when its under little to no load, that and it has recently started to rattle not being more that 8 months old. I would reccomend it for a car that has no plans on making some serious power and a daily driver but if you want loud this is not the setup you want. I will post a sound clip if you would like.

Thanks,
Tyler

Thanks. Yea, mine's basically a daily. Besides, I'm looking for the sleeper/stealthy type car; the kind that ricers think that they can walk all over, then I show them otherwise

No need to post a sound clip. Hope to see you at Rockingham! I can see and hear your car there.

Have you checked the connections and anchor ponits of the exhaust to see if anything is loose causing the rattle?

Who installed your exhaust? Edit: Nevermind, I found the answer to that question HERE.

I'm also considering a setup like 97qwikcat's.

I agree with giving it some miles, I have about 4k on mine, and I think it sounds better now, deeper, and a better sound overall

yeah he rattle comes from the front right behind the cats but i haven't had the time to go back to the shop and get them to fix it. Rockingham.... maybe with the help of Robert (see sig) as well as a few others to help "jumpstart" the winter mod season, but first i have to procure a daytime occupation of some sort.

If it doesn't bother you too much right now I would wait on the resonator. Once you put some miles on that system it will loose that "edge" to the sound and probably be just right. Would be interesting to hear the difference in sound though. I vote no resonator for now. Nice car either way!
