i think Ive had it...

well after being at school for a while and not driving my bird and now driving it my exhaust drone is realllly getting to me. i have high flow cats to di/so magnaflow midmounted muffler to it y'd off at rear diff to tips out the back.

what is everyone's suggestions for getting rid of this aweful drone lol. im wanting to keep the cats. im guessing the location of the muffler has ALOT to do with it. there a way i can leave it there and add something to quiet the drone? or maybe relocate the muffler to under trunk? im looking for cheap as possible to remedy this prob.

by the way its a '93 3.8L

thanks guys

I would get a high flow resonator. I have no personal experience with them but was reading up on them a while ago. It’s just an empty muffler basically and it cancels out some of the crappy sounds, probably drone too.

i was thinking on something like a glasspack just to quiet it down but thought that because of the muff being where it is it would still drone.

where are you saying to put the resonator? in front or behind the muff? im gonna guess the only true way to get rid of it is o move muff from that location, could be wrong tho cuz the 4.6 guys with true dual midmounted di/do magnaflows dont have this much drone

Well traditionally it’s before the muffler, but yea I don’t know much about them. Just throwing out ideas so other more informed people then I could chime in.

No, that is a Magnaflow resonator with an X-Pipe perforated core. Not a muffler. The one pictured is the Dual in Dual out model. supercoupeperformance.com has a good selection of resonators check it out.

but with the muffler still midmounted, wouldn't it still drone? im not doubting that glasspacks in the rear may help, but i not understanding on how it would cut down the drone of the muffler. could you explaine more?

only way i see it helping is if a resonator is before the muffler OR i move the muffs out back.

well i was looking around on Jeg's and found some dynomat. would that work good enough to keep the drone out of my car? would i need to do anymore then just the trunk? maybe trunk and back of rear seat?

also how much you think i would need, ballpark figure

most of the sound isn't resonating thru the wall of the muffler its coming out of the tail pipe so if you have the sound pass thru the glasspacks it will tone down the exhaust a bit. Or another way if you wanted to experiment is to weld in a lenght of pipe 3-5" ON the exhaust wherever you could fit it VERTICAL to the exhaust and cap it off (the honda S2000 uses this on its oem exhaust to kill drone) kinda like an H pipe but dosent fully connect.

yea cuz otherwise im lost on it lol my first idea is gonna just throw some 12" glasspacks under the trunk(i think that's all that will fit) with some tips.

but im open to cheaper ideas at any time.

that pipe sticking out after where it was hacked off is the resonator tube this is an oem S2000 exhaust. it is simply capped off. When i first saw that i could not figure out why they would do that. I called all my coworkers over too and they could not figure what it was for either untill i did some research.
