Question '97 T-Bird 4.6L Sport pkg. exhaust help!

Hello!

I am looking at a '97 T-Bird 4.6L with the Sport Pkg for a daily driver.

It is throwing a "cat below efficiency" code.

I was going to purchase a new Magnaflow y-pipe, part# MPE23343,
from Summit Racing, and have my son install it at the Tuffy Muffler shop he works at.

Has anybody used this y-pipe?
It's supposed to be a direct bolt-on replacement, all stainless unit.
The factory catback seems to be in real good shape.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!
Jeff

Just bought '94 SuperCoupe 5-speed.
Pearl White w/Gray leather.
122K, and at Dave Dalke's 1-16-09
for head gaskets, a little suspension, and DEFINITELY
some exhaust work!

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum.

I haven't tried that specific part, but I do have 2 Magnaflow high-flow cats, part #94004 in place of the factory cats and they work great. They go into a mid-mounted Magnaflow dual in/dual out muffler, #11385, and then the 2 pipes go out the back. The stainless steel tips I have are by NAPA and are angle cut like on Mustangs. Mine are 2.25 inch from the cats to the rear. It has a mellow sound and very little drone.

i doubt you would have any problems with that magnaflow now if it was some run of the mill ebay pos the it would be different.

There have been reported fitment issues as well as improper orientation of the rear oxygen sensors, but both can be easily remedied by an experienced exhaust shop. The Magnaflow unit is superior to the factory Y-pipe in terms of flow and efficiency.
