Going for some Exhaust work!

Today is the day that the Bird gets some exhaust done. I am going with a single, 2.5" SS setup with Magnaflow converters (if they HAVE to ) and Magnaflow 3 chamber muffler. Hopefully, I will have some free flowing exhaust after they are done. Of course, I will update this thread once they are on.

In other news, the pre-bent brake lines from DirtyDog is an awesome time saver! The rear lines were done in 1.5 hours. I would highly suggest getting these if you don't want to spend all day fabbing lines.

I got her back and she is a bit uncivilized then when she went in. The single exhaust sounds great! I get a little rasp at lower speeds. Highway driving a WOT doesn't rasp at all, it sounds nice. The Magnaflow 3 chamber may not have been the best choice for my setup. Its hard to tell since this is a custom job.

No mistaken, I have a V8 under the hood.

Congrats James. Yea, changing the exhaust is one of the most notable changes you can make to these cars.

Now every kid with a ricer within a 20 mile radius will want to race you.

Its a single in, single out. I totally axed the second tube.

Is that through stock manifolds or do you have headers?

Soon to have some MHS parts, cams, 'luminum block, lower compression, ported heads, autorotor, and need to make long tubes. I have almost all the stuff and need some #42-50s a bypass valve, and maybe a few other things.

Headers would be nice(to much $$$) but are not needed unless you are SC.

Lots to read about in TCCOA on this topic.

Hey james, have not talked to you in awhile hope to check out your new setup and the sound clips.

I added a recent sound clip of my car in the video section. I am axing my cats next week also and going to a Xpipe and Magnaflow single also.

This is kinda like what I want to do. Replace the 3rd cat with a y pipe and replace the mufflers with some Dynomax's.

I ended up taking it back for round 2. Its way too loud and raspy. It sounds great while idling and crusing but sounds like crap while accelerating. I will have to either put in the cats or go with a different muffler. I will have to wait and see what they say.

I just heard from the exhaust guy.. He is going to put in the new Magnaflow converters and a Turbo muffler. He told me that the mufflers are mounted so far back that vibrations and rasp happen.

Anyway, I am over budget but it will be nice.

One thing about going no cats...

My buddy's 1993 Crown Vic had the same rasp when he went with pipes instead of the converters. Over the weekend, he hollowed out his old converters and installed it back in. The rasp went away. I think it has something to do with the shape of the converters or some physical aspect of them. Not sure..

One thing is for sure, going no cats on a MN12 will make your car sound like crap (IMHO).

Aside from helping to clean the exhaust, catalysts do help mellow the exhaust tone, from what I've experienced.

I got the car back and I am very pleased! It sounds like a V8, without sounding like a bulldozer. It knocked the noise down big time. It doesn't sound as nice at idle as before, but it is much more comfortable to drive.

I am hitting the track this Wednesday (I hope!). Hopefully, getting rid of the restrictive exhaust will make me lose a little off my 1/4
