Pick n pull find, will it help?

So I stumbled across an s/c cat in our p n p yard the other day, only had 131xxxkm's (not miles) on it. What a shame to scrap. Anyway it was a 5spd car, but the trans is gone along with everything from the intake up.
What I did get was a Flowmaster cat back system with the super 10's that appears almost new (no real flowmaster rust) haha! There is a couple pieces missing that I will have to rebuild namely the 3" stainless resonator that someone decided to cut in half for some reason and the section of pipe that beands around the gas tank. But flange in front of the rear diff back is there as well as a short section from that flange forward.
I also grabbed the down tubes that the cats had been deleted from and the custom Y that was replacing the third cat. From the front Y was the 3" resonator and 3" single back to the rear Y that I will need to redo most of but it seems easy enough.

Now for my questions......
Will the down tubes fit a 5.0 with stock stang shorties?
Biggest visual difference I can see right away is the o2 bung in the pipe instead of header.
How will this sound with no cats or resonator?
My 5.0 ho as far as I know is stock with the exception of a cone air filter that was on it when I got it, MSD coil and wires, and the headers.

I know its flowmaster but it was cheap.
Also what else should I grab from that car?
Planning to go back and get the pedals, and trac-loc, and debating the rear disc pieces as well.

The pedal can be sold here for a manual conversion, making a few bucks back.

Also get the clutch master cylinder and all the plumbing you can.

The down tubes won't fit right without working, and I personally would rather start from scratch if it were me.

As to the headers - that's a good conundrum. One thing -you ARE aware that the 5.0HO came standard with shorty headers as exhaust manifolds, right? I can provide pics of unmolested exhaust manifolds on a 91 5.0HO if you wish

The O2s - Bank 1 (passenger side) is in the down pipe, Bank 2 (driver's side) is in the exhaust manifold.

Grab the spindle out on both sides if you're thinking about going disc - or want spares.

If you like me need to rebuild parts and then replace them, grabbing the control arms (upper AND lower!) in the back may not be a bad idea. Also, the SC rear springs are at worst the same as yours, and if you don't have the JJJJ spring code, they're stiffer. If possible, if you don't have JJJJ, grab the front shock/spring combos.

For resell here, if it still has the ARC shocks on it, grab them out the back. If they're not bad, folks will buy them here and on SCCoA (albeit they don't exactly go screaming out the door ... )

The Tracloc will be a good addition, however, you'll want to regear it - it should be a 2.73 if it's a 5 speed SC, and that's a bit long legged for our 2 ton cars. But if your car is an open, it's a dandy core to rebuild with a 3.55 or 3.73 in it, and then do a quick swap.

Two more things - grab the seat belt setup - 'Murrikans are looking for them.

And for me, if it has the DRL module, I'd like one myself down here in Louisiana ...

That gives me more to look for. Guess I'll be spending a bit more. Lol!
What kind of work would the down tubes need?

I wouldn't know until I knew where the mustang shorties ended up.

Presuming they're MUSTANG shorties and not the factory exhaust manifolds.

They could actually be the factory shorty's, I just assumed they were fox body headers. The rest of the exhaust looks stock right down to the ford stamped resonator and mufflers.

Those factory 5.0 headers suck. The opening in those are like a dime size in an hourglass shape!

So if they are the stock headers that I have will the s/c down tubes fit or will they still need to be reworked?

They'll need to be reworked some. How much exactly? Can't say until the system is in the car.

But ask yourself, why do you want them?

If I were you, I'd save up and spring for the Mandrel Exhaust Systems downpipe set (which is a box of parts and instructions to "Arrange and trim to fit, weld together, enjoy!")

If you want direct bolt-on, Walker (and others!) sell the front three cats and all the piping in one piece.

I looked at the Trubendz kits and may go with one in the future when the other bugs in the car quit eating up the budget. But I dont see down pipes listed on there, just from the front cats back by the looks of their pic. Are the down pipes a seperate kit?
