Installing exhaust

So what's it take to actually install a cat back exhaust?

My plan is to remove the Y pipe/center cat, and install a true dual with a crossover or a center dual in/out resonator.
I've never installed an exhaust, and I have no welding experience. Is it as simple as using heat/penetrating oil to remove the old exhaust, then bolting up the new one? Anything I need to have on hand to install it? Extra clamps, a few extra connectors, etc?

It looks "easy" assuming I can get the old one off, is it a big deal?

If you're talking about a ready-made kit, it should be pretty easy. I've not purchased a kit before, but cutting/splicing new exhaust tubing isn't too difficult if the system is in decent shape.

If you're talking about a homemade setup, that would be bit more challenging, especially without a lift.

If you have a pre-bent setup, you should be able to cut/splice the tubing with simple hand tools and you can use exhaust clamps to secure the parts together. Otherwise, I don't think bending straight tubes or welding mandrel pieces together would be quite a job!

Yes, I'm looking at ready made kits. Thanks, for some reason I thought it was a much bigger job than that.

I did see that. Luckily, when I bought the GT Bird, it already had a true dual exhaust installed with a center mount dual in/out magnaflow and glasspacks on the end of each pipe to give it a mellow yet aggressive tone.

Take parts to an independent garage that specializes in exhaust, and muffler installs. Pick a shop that has an actual tube bender, like a cnc machine, to make fine alignment bends in the mandrel exhaust pipes for proper fitment of various parts listed if needed. And, a quality install means all parts are welded together. No clamps.
