how bad will this affect flow...

if i just hollow out this cat and reuse it? wouldn't it cause some turbulance and possibly affecting flow or i'm fine with it?

want to make it like the passenger side but the shop around here wouldn't want to mess with welding the cast iron...

exactly how you hollow it out?

stick up a pipe in there and hammer the other end of the pipe?

thanks.

Yes, or cut the top of the cat open with a saw and hollow it out and reweld

They weld ok...I welded mine. Heck, they're welded on from the factory.

If he could get it welded, then he'd just cut the whole thing off and weld the flange up where it should be!

If they definately won't weld it for you, then yes, you can just shove a pick of some sort up there and break the catalyst up into a million pieces and dump it out. Just realize that you'll have to rework your exhaust system then.

so it won't cause unbalance flow that'll hurt the engine right with one side of empty cat?

Do you have to worry about emissions testing? if not, why run cats at all? hah.

no emmision testing here. in fact i'm catless on my 2 valve engine now.

the situation now is as you see in the pic of the engine, the driver side of the manifold have the cat attached while the passenger side doesn't i print out the picture and show to the shop here and ask them if they can cut off the cat and weld the flange on and make it just like the passenger side, after they found out it's a cast iron manifold they don't want to touch it because of the cast iron material. they said it may crack that's why they don't want to touch it.

i want kooks header but that's out of question because of the price when my wife saw it. "Don't even think about it!!!" is what came out from my wife's mouth.

so my only way is to make use of what available to me now. hence the question.

so my other chances right now is find other shop that'll weld cast iron material.

wish me luck.

Just get a piece of rebar and beat on the catalytic material with a hammer and run straight pipe on the passenger side. Don't mess with welding that cast iron. Or just start saving your pennies for the Kooks.
