Unhappy I give up! Magnaflow cats question...

Okay... Now I've spent half an hour searching here and
another half hour comparing the Magnaflow cats
on summit....

I just can't see any difference between the one
for 65 bucks and 135 bucks...
Okay... the 135 ones are 21" 3 chambered
honeycones made out of stainless steel.
and the 65 ones are 16" but that's all the difference I
can tell...
My guess is that the 21" ones are better at removing
the CO and HC but would 16" do the job?
I've got about the same laws over here as
the poor souls in Cali but with the difference that
as long as the new exhaust is equal or better at "cleaning" the
exhaust it's okay...
They don't care if it's stock or if it after market as long as the
CO and HC values are under certain limits...

So, what's everyone using and does anyone got
a partnumber?

Thanks!

21" long cats!?!

Do you have the part numbers of the two that you're looking at?

For example...
Can't find any differences other than the lenght...

The reason I don't buy 'em from supercoupeperfomance.com
is that I have to get some other stuff and the shipping is cheaper if
I order A LOT of stuff at the same time...

You want the first one. The second one has a O2 bung in the middle of the cat, and the last two have ports for use with an air pump.

EDIT: Before you order, take a look at your engine to see if you have an air pump. I just noticed that you have a 302, which may have come with one. It would be a belt driven pump, in addition to the AC compressor, alternator, water pump, and power steering pump. If you DO have one, then you'll want one of the two bottom cats that you listed.

Yup... Got an airpump.... down to the left below the alt...
Don't dare to take it off since it lowers the CO and HC value...
From what I've read it helps burning unburnt fuel vapors...
But from what I remember it's just connected to one
of the cat's right...?

So the right choice would be
one
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

and one
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Right?
One 16" 2½ inch in/out with AIR
and one 16" 2½ inch in/out without AIR

Thanks for your help...

The stock third cat on our cars is a three-way (two inlets/one outlet). A two way only has one inlet and one outlet.

Are you sure?

Just thought if you check out this link
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...5&autoview=sku

the converter style is 2 way/3 way/3 way with oxidation...
How the .... do they know which one to send if they've got
the same part# ???

Just got confused again...

Edit:
So sorry to tell you but you're actually wrong...
Both are 2/3 ways but a bit above it says single inlet and single outlet
so it can't be the number of outlets/inlets....
Going to ask summit and see what they say...

2 way and 3 way are not the number of inlets and outlets, "Three-way" refers to the three regulated emissions it helps to reduce -- carbon monoxide, VOCs and NOx molecules.

I don't know what 2 a two way does, and I don't when a 2 way is fine (older vehicle) and when a 3 way is needed.

Well, that's the last time I listen to the guy at the exhaust shop.

I guess you learn something new everyday.

ok cool, cause i was looking at the picture and scratching my head. sweet, im ordering those and some dynomax bullets and having the exhaust redone.

now another stupid question. im going to run 2.5" all the way back, i need a 2.5" cat right? i was just worried that if they were both the same size it wouldnt slip over the pipe. oh and i need some o2 bungs, anyone know what size?

Got a really fast answer from Summit...
Unfortunately the answer came so fast he didn't have time to put
much effort into it....

The 2 way was normally used on the 1980 and earlier, but I would still consider the 94006.
Didn't clear my head that much really...
Probably asked the wrong question or something...

But there you have it anyway...
So I guess Bangster was right on!

Thanks!
