stock pipes=true dual???

hey guys i was wondering if i was to take 2 exhaust systems from 2 v8 MN12 cars and put them together for a true dual set up..whould it be worth it.

it seems easy.cut the two centers put them side by side and delete the third cat with an X pipe and run em to the back. idea originally someone elses but i was wondering as well.

Definatly wouldn't be worth it. Stock piping sucks bad. I highly doubt it would even work.

Best bet is to get the ART system or go custom true duals.

I had my true dual setup custom fabbed to look just like the ART system with aluminized 2.5" pipe instead of stainless for $350 at my local Midas. Shop around.

2007 Ford Mustang GT Premium - SOLD March 2014.
2013 Ford Taurus SHO (TUXESHO) Tuxedo Black Bone stock for now.

I got a DI/DO muffler, 18"x3" tips and had true duals bent up with everything thing installed for like $475 at a local exhaust shop.

Sorry, forgot about the issues going on with ART. But you will definatly want to go with a custom true dual setup then.

My hookup at the exhaust shop bent me 2.25 catless from the manifolds back with a di/do for $193.82 Go to Midas and slip a 12 pack in the exhaust guy's truck after work. He might help ya out. Besides with the "two stock system" idea is bad because of the crappy @ss bends/flat spot before the diff. Just my 2

Cool

I took mine to Midas first for a custom job. It Was The Worst Mistake I Ever Made! First, I told them what I wanted, and I didn't get it. I wanted 2" pipes and they cheaped it up by using only 1-3/4" pipe! Then they put in a pair of there sorry a** turbo mufflers and bent the pipe so bad at the inlet it was pinched almost closed! Thank god I looked under the car to check it out before I left the parking lot. When I told the manager ( or at least HE thought he was), he had it put on the lift to look at it, then asked me what the problem was . He said it looked fine. After an hour of arguing and numerous threats of calling the cops and attornies, I actually got them to put my old system back in, even though they hacked it up taking it out. I didn't pay them a CENT either. Midas Sucks! I finally took it to a Real exhaust shop and they fabbed me a custom system with a custom made Y-pipe in place of the resonater, then run duel 2" pipe back to a pair of Dynomax bullet glasspacks with duel chrome tips out the back, all for 400.00.

the only thing i frown on though is the Y pipe.the whole purpose i think of a custom exhaust on these cars is an X pipe and true duals at least 2.1/4.what kinda gain did you get from your set up???was it noticable?

Cool

What's the purpose of an X pipe, or a H pipe, or in my case a Y pipe. It's to join the two banks togather to equalize the exhaust pulses and increase performance. On our engines in stock form, 2" pipe is plenty. I get a great pulse effect and good tone with the glasspacks. I get comments on how nice it sounds all the time, plus it doesn't sound like a Mustang. If I wanted it to sound like a Mustang, I would of bought a Mustang. The "seat of the pants" feel wasn't that dramatic, but on a kick down, or in passing, It does pull better.

yeah i work for Midas, we suck at custom exhausts unless we just happen to have someone who is good at pipe bending and of course they usually get pissed off and quit anyway so best bet is to go to a good independent exhaust shop. that pictur kinda looks like my exhaust cept i dont have mufflers

exacly but an X pipe from what ive learned will not effect bottom end or top end power.

I wouldnt say that... With my exhaust 4.6 the X-pipe hurt my top end... And i know this from my seat of the pants plus a race... I used to pull on my friends TC's 1st gear, not pull 2nd, and then pull away 3rd gear... With the X-pipe i pulled HARDER 1st gear, he pulled even on my 2nd gear, and 3rd gear we were dead even... So going from 2.25 all the way back with open cut outs to 2.25, x-pipe, then cutouts actually slowed me down... I went from beating my buddies bolt on TC by a good 2-3 lengths, from being dead even in the middle of 3rd... thats a pretty big difference... So dont think "little" exhaust mods dont make a difference because they do..

P.S. i have since taken that x-pipe off and now its in my backseat.

true duals from cats back.....no meeting of the pipes besides the engine itself. i have noticed a slight loss of power from less restriction.

hollow front cats, 3rd cat still there, no resonator, replaced by a single 40 series flowmaster, 2 3"x18" tips out back. screamin demon coil packs, mallory pro wires, motorcraft platinum plugs. intake resonator delete.

exhaust

hey thanks larry, i thought of asking that on here just didn't get around to it. what i was wondering it will it help to run the true duals like mybird91 but then add a balancer pipe between the duals right before the crossmember to connect the two pipes making it into an h-pipe. by the way i believe the exhaust is 2 1/4 all the way back. then at the back where it splits into the dual mufflers it goes from 2 1/4 to 2 then into the mufflers. also uncaged94 did you replace the resonator with the y pipe or just the third muffler? your drawing looks like you still have the resonator pictured as a round ball.
