Will this y collector work?

First Post!

Hello, got a nice stock 97 4.6l cougar and am wanting to upgrade the exaust for better sound and perfomance, but dont have much funds.

Was thinking of getting a http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294776405 flowmaster 2.25" to 3" y collector then puttin a muffler directly onto the ycollector, then running a 3" pipe as far back as I can. Will this ycollector work with the stok 2" pipes coming off the manifolds? I know it is different size but i can make it work.

If this will work then it will cost around or less than $100..which will be a real nice price! Thanks for the help!

hey welcome to the boards!!!
as for you question, this is my take on it. First the 3" pipe is too much pipe for a stock engine. Second that flowmaster y pipe is cool but pricey, look in ebay and you'll find one cheaper. as for a your idea i would recommend putting a magnaflow muffler mid body (the muffler that has the dual inlet and single outlet) and remove the rear muffler with tips

here's a link to the muffler i was talking about

I dont think it would be too much pipe, it will be 3" SINGLE pipe after the y collector.

So it would go...

ypipe with cats-ycollector-3"inlet muffler-pipe to rearend/rear bumper. Thanks again for the help.

I just want to make sure the ycollector will work.
