This may sound dumb, and I may be missing it in the pics, but is there going to be a break in the exhaust twards the back so you can still drop it out of the way if need be? But looking closer your pipes never connect by the way it looks so I guess you could just unbolt from the manifolds/headers, and unbolt from the turbos, and drop out the whole long tube. Just a thought I had.

Sweet pics though, I hope everything works out for you, gonna be one bad ass ride!

thats awesome, I wonder what the turbos will sound like from inside the car, with them being in the trunk. That should be pretty cool. Nice work man.

havent you compromised the rigidity of the unibody by eliminating that section of the trunk? why dont you have filtration for the turbo oiling? how do you plan on tuning this thing properly? and with all due respect, why did you "gut" the car just to lay claim on "twin turbos"?

I will have an in line filter with the oiling system on the pressure side after the pump and if later necessary a cooler.

I can't wait to hear the sound...whats more is the sound from the rear of the car since the compressors face the factory back up light holes.
Wouldn't it make more sense to have the filter before the pump so the pump receives filtered oil too?

I'll give you credit for the work your doing to get this done; but I wouldn't ever go the same route as you did on my car. I've become attached to my interior over the years.

Also, how were you planning on running the cold side back to the front? Through the interior, underneath, etc?

I think there are all sorts of ways that trunk-mounted turbos could be dangerous. At the least, I would put in some sort of metal bulkhead. Perhaps a fire extinguisher system would be a good idea too.

You could setup an emergency Halon Fire suppression system in the trunk. That would be cool.

You will need vents anyway since you will be pulling air with the turbos and you won't need a fan as you will already have two air pumps

All I can say is .... wow ....

Gotta give you credit for not letting little things like comfort and safety get in the way of a good idea ....

I'm not criticizing or judging what your doing,

But I had an experience with GB that woke me up to the need for clear thinking about safety in a high powered, modified car. Actually I had two experiences:

One was at the track, the first time I jammed the accelerator pedal and the car went sideways, I got off it, she upshifted to 2nd, I got back on it and she headed sideways for the other lane again - I saw how easily and fast bad stuff can happen.

The other experience was while I was test driving GB on the street. It had to do with a loose injector "O" ring, and gasoline spraying out of the fuel rail. Nothing caught fire, but it easily could have been a huge disaster.

Shtuff happens to modified race cars, it happens often, and it happens fast ...

so if it were me, I'd want a solid partition between me and those turbos, and the hot oil running around back there. If something lets go at 25,000 rpm or higher, I wouldn't want to be in the way, or have whatever is flying around loose escape, possibly rupture a fuel cell and expose the gas to superheated, compressed air, or just fly and hit me, or someone else. I also would not want to risk the escape of any exhaust into the cabin.

And all this talk about "sounding cool"... I suspect that the high pitched whine of a turbo in an enclosed cabin with nothing between the turbos and your ears will have a detrimental effect on your hearing. I suggest some really good earplugs, like the kind we used on the airfield when I worked for Continental.

I know, I'm an old phart, and don't heal as easily as I used to, so I don't want to take the risks you youngsters take...

but that's just me ...

-mike

Ok, now that you have spelled out that you are going to take some precautions, I think a lot of people will breathe easier. Before, it wasn't really clear how you were going to leave the thing set up.

Any updates on this? Im liking the way this is looking.

Chris

Soon to have some MHS parts, cams, 'luminum block, lower compression, ported heads, autorotor, and need to make long tubes. I have almost all the stuff and need some #42-50s a bypass valve, and maybe a few other things.
