turbo info

well im going to turbo my 3.8 n/a and i was wondering where i should hook up my oil line for it. as in how would i get the oil from the pan to the turbo. is there like a pump or something i should look into. anyhelp would be nice. p.s. im going to use an ihi turbo to start with and see what i can do from there. maybe move to a t3/t4 hybrid.

Don't take this wrong, but if you don't know the answer to that question, you need to spend another month at least studying before you pick up a wrench. You need to understand intimately how the system works before you start moving things around and trying to find mounting room.

I had all my parts for probably 2 months before I finally had the full plan in my head of how to fit it together. Then I spent another 2 months cutting and welding each individual piece of the system. Do I think it was difficult? Not once I had realized a full plan. But was it easy? No way in heck!

shouldn't you just tap into the feed going to the sending unit? the line that goes to the oil pan is the return line for the oil, correct me if i'm wrong, i'm still researching the turbo stuff.

im only 17 but i have been wreching for ohh idk 12 years and im still working on the plans and everything and this is the research for the turbo setup that im doing. i will still have to get a decent plan on my head, see if my father could help out, and find time to do it. so thanks for the piece of info and all but i didnt want this to get ugly or people start thinking im a dumbass but this is the learning and reseach

Here's some more "things" to research:

The N/A 3.8L blows head gaskets without boost. Adding boost will only blow them faster.
The N/A 3.8L has cast pistons, which are not really the optimal pistons to use for any boosted applications
The N/A 3.8L block is considerably weaker than a SC block (someone correct me on this fact as I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on the SC engines as the V8 engines)
How will the wastegate system operate and be tuned?
Will a BOV be utilized?

I'm not knocking you or anything and I applaud you desire to boost the 3.8L. However, you have to understand the principles of forced induction and all the inherent dangers and limitations that come with boost.

With that said, the turbo bearing housing should have two inlets and two outlets; one inlet/outlet for oil and one inlet/outlet for water. The inlets are not nearly as critical as the outlets because either the oil pump or the water pump pressurizes the inlets. The critical part is the outlet or return lines. They have to have a clear, unobstructed path back to the oil pan or block. And if the turbo is mounted below the entry points (i.e. gravity feed won’t work) then a scavenging pump will have to be utilized.

IMHO, the N/A 3.8L is not suitable for any boosted applications. A built engine, then yeah, anything is possible. But when you go that route you have to start with the best parts available (which would be a V8).
