Cam Q's

What is the best cam to install on a stock 87 TC and will still cost less then $400 for cam and followers. I was thinking a new ranger roller cam but don't know what the best year for the ranger 2.3 was. Any help would be great.

I'm very interested I need to get the TC back on the road. I haven't taken it apart yet but it was running fine and all of a sudden it started skipping on one cylinder and I could hear a knocking sound from the valve cover. I know that TC's will flatten a cam lobe and mine does have 170000 miles on it, and it did it right after I had to replace the aux shaft, distributor, and oil pump. I had a shop do all of the work. I think when I replaced all of the parts the weakest link gave up. I want to get it up and running now that I got my stimulus check.

looking forward to it. I'm trying to keep as much of the money as I can fix a couple of other problems it has.

actually, its anything AFTER 91 for 2.3's.

the ranger cam and 2.3dp mustangs both have roller cams from the factory and you can normally get one from the u-pull for around $35.

The ranger cam has slightly higher lift than the mustang cam though but both are good for at least getting some roller rockers which pretty much NEVER go bad lol.

boport makes a really nice set of roller cams for the 2.3t engines and they only run around $200 or so from him.

you can also get a used A237 cam off ebay for around $150 or so....but its already been proven that boport cams are better for our 2.3t engines as they were designed for it versus the A237 cam which is nothing more than a roller version of the A234 cam which is setup for n/a applications.
