They kind of are, but that's a good thing. Real cheap to make them run low 14s ( under $500), you can make them run 13's for not more than a $1k. 12s are possibly too, plus they are good sleepers.

I had an 85 TurboCoupe..

And I loved it!!

I had installed a V-8 5 speed, 86 SVO suspension w/3.73’s, 73mm front calipers and the stock 86 SVO rear discs, and heavily modded the engine (ported head, bigger valves, bigger cam, ported exhaust manifold, forged pistons, etc).

The car would scream!!

I have also designed a fully custom boost system using holley jets to bleed off the boost signal to the waste-gate control. I had it wired to RPM activated switches and solenoids so I could tune the boost based on rpm.

Let me know if you need sources for any parts. I got a lot of my parts from Racer Walsh and have had good luck with their service. I might even have some small trim parts lying around that I no longer need.

I think you’ll like it.

$7 bleeder valve, $20 k&n filter and $220 flowmaster cat back with stock downpipe, you can actually just disconect the exhaust and get little more power. That was on 198xxx mile motor with stock turbo and stock street tires with stock clutch and shot trans. I've put 3" downtube since, hybrid turbo, msd digital 6 ignition, really good clutch, afpr, bigger k&n filter, bigger fuel pump, I put cam out of 86 svo mustang ( little more lift and duration), ported my stock head, fixed the trans, underdrive pulleys, got me some 255/50/16 drag radials and have nos kit in the basement, put short throw shifter. NOw in first gear it just fries tires, if you power shift it to second gear it does the same thing, it barks them 2-3 shift and it even chirps them 3-4. If I just put in in second gear and step on it, it breakes them loose at around 45mph and fries them. Oh and I ran 98+ camaro on the highway and pulled couple of cars on them, then ran a honda del sol from the dead start and pulled at least 10 car on that pos. I'll be taking the motor out, rebuilding it and sticking it in the 70's pinto wagon and droping a 351tt in the tc. Or all the motor parts might be for sale in a couple of weeks, I might be buying a newer car and I just have too many cars so the parts might be available soon, I do have a complete 87 tc for parts too,

they're kind of boring stock, but painted grey, black, or light blue, with a flat black hood, and black wheels with a red line on each tire or rim...
that would be AWESOME!!! **drool**

...and 4 exhaust tips coming off the dual exhaust....orgasmic!

...and you cant forget the calvin pissing on the honda emblem in the back window

If you want much better looks (IMHO, I know I will get flamed for this by the 83-86 diehards, lol), more luxury, and more factory performance, get an 87-88 Turbo Coupe. The body styling was changed quite a bit and many people who hate the 83-86 style love the 87-88.

This engine also came in lots of other 80s cars. In fuel injected form, it came in:

Mustang GT Turbo (bet you never knew there was ever a GT with a four banger!!! lol but there was!)
Mustang GT350 Turbo (#9 most rarest mustang ever is the 20th anny GT350 turbo convertible)
Mustang SVO (THE best handling mustang ever, better than some Porsches, unique spoiler and front fascia)
Cougar XR7 (from 83-86)
Merkur XR4Ti (an exotic German sports car from the German division of Mercury - Merkur. lightweight, IRS, etc)

In carbed form, it came in:
79 Mustang pace car
Mercury Capri (I *think* it came with a carbed 2.3T)
probably a few others

gt...

The GT 4, I have only seen one. But they are out there. I had a LX 4, I put all the steering and suspention from that turbo 4 mustang that ford built. Tried to put a turbo from a french turboed escourt. But it was blown. So we can the whole plan. My cousin (best Mech I have ever seen) had a turbo coup that would eat 5.0 cars and even some vetts alive. So yes, I think that turbo coups are a great car. Kinda got 70's pimp mobile going...

You can get a tc for anywhere between $100-$3500. If you pay $3500 for one it should be in really good shape with some mods and low miles.

Here's my flock(the black one is being parted).

The white one has the 5.0, and one on far left is my daughters.

I'm a diehard V8 man at heart, love the TC's but they need a whole engine.

I paid $3500 for my black 88 4 years ago with 67k. Don't know if that was good or not but it didn't have any rust. The paint was slightly hazy.

I love my 86 XR4Ti import kids don't know WTF it is and seem to like the styling.
I like the handling but dislike the open rearend and small brakes but is stock trim(suspension wise) with new shoks and bushings on the front it handles like a dream.
I bought it used @ 83000 miles and have since added another 140K to it and it just(as in just last week) started to puff at startup time to change the cam when I have the valvecover off new lifters too.

No matter how good she looks. No matter how cool she is about your "stuff". No matter how great she is in bed, someone somewhere is sick of her crap.

1995 850R with 18T, 3" downpipe, R.I.P. kit, ported intake,42lb injectors, N/A cams, 960 throttlebody, Rica tune(15psi in first and second 17psi in third and fourth). Bilsteins all around, V70R caliper and rotor upgrade, total lack of traction. IPD STB, Ultra Racing lower braces and RSTB.

I am on my 3rd TC and I love these things.Bottom end take off is a little week but its so much fun hearing the turbo spool as you are pulling away from alot of so called built cars.I am not saying its like ultra fast but it does get up and move for what it is.

And I agree, The handling is awesome. With 144,000 on the clock it still has a decent ride and takes cornerslike on rails.

My wifes 94 is acting up so I swapped cars with her for a little while. She is driving my 86 5 speed TC while I drive the 4.6.
She LOVES my little TC.
Talks about its handling, its ride...
And I am stuck driving the Pig.
