Transmission

I have a C3 transmission from '86 turbo coupe, and I have no reverse. All foreward gears work correctly, and the low/reverse band is properly positioned. It has to be some kind of hydraulic malfunction that is causing the no-reverse condition, but I can't find any stuck valves, or incorrectly-located check balls. It baffles me as to why I don't have reverse. Yes, the shift linkage is adjusted properly, and yes, there is enough fluid. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Myabe there's something I missed?

you know we do what little we can. Sorry that should have been AS little as we can.

BTW todd, I started your car today and made the neighbors go inside to escape the fumes.

No "skeeters" out here in the Colorado. No mosquitos either, for that matter. Well, not too many, anyway.

Well, it's not JUST a Pinto. It's a WAGON PINTO!!!! (please imagine the looks and awe of the rednecks seeing it unvailed). It does have great interior though.

Interior?!?!?!?!? What interior? Presently the pinto awaits new carpet and some other goodies. Just got a new heater core in it last night. I went to a radiator shop yesterday, and they actually had a brand new core waiting just for me. I thought it was kind of scary, actually. Parts readily available for a pinto? Something has to be wrong here........ I have pictures of this wonderful automobile, and I should maybe think about getting them posted on here somehow. Anyway, A4LD transmission will soon be installed, then I'll do some burnouts......... I should maybe think about taking some pictures of the lack of interior while the car is this far apart, just to be able to prove that someone is actually restoring a pinto..........

Oh, also, the reverse band in the now-junked transmission was fine. The reverse clutch didn't want to play anymore. Time for C3 with overdrive (A4LD/4R44E/5R55E)

Waste money, I won't. Purchase A4LD I did, however. OK, enough of the yoda-speech. Thanks for the compliment about pintos. But it seems that some people are skeptics. I think he's just jealous, and secretly wishes he had one for himself, so he could help with the exponential multiplication......... Time to go put some interior back in.

My ultimate goal for the pinto is to purchase a 2-wheel-drive ranger with auto transmission and 4-cylinder engine, and drive it into the shop and park it next to the pinto...................... I require a ranger with distributorless ignition, and working air conditioning (I'm going to put the dealer-installed air conditioning back into the pinto some day). Oh, and everything on the ranger has to work properly too. I don't care if the ranger was wrecked either, just as long as it still runs and drives.

"Boost control?", you ask? Never had it before, and I don't see any reason to have it in the future..........

I agree A4LD's are junk. I took out 3 of them with my Aerostar

International Harvester all the way!
Remember: Nothing runs like a DEERE, and nothing dies like one either! LOL

Yes.........definitely International diesel in Ford truck (I have one). Not stock, of course. I won't be putting A4LD into the pinto without modifying it first. Shift improver kit is the only way to go. The only transmission I have without a shift kit in it is the one in my '68 blundertird, and that's only because it's currently in the body shop, and i'm going to sell it as soon as it's done there. 66,XXX miles, 429 thunderjet, 2.70:1 9" rear end, near perfect interior. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's all done.
