I am installing 3.73 gears....

Hello...

I am tossing a 3.73 gearset into my 92' sport, 8.8, originally with 3.08 gears...I forgot if this car has an actual speedo cable, or is a purely electronic speedo? In addition, which speedo gear did any of you use, if anyone has done one for a similar application....

Any help would be appreciated...

By the way, is it possible that there might be some sort of link left behind when something gets moved?

Thanks a bunch.

There's always a psychic imprint left behind for a few days, at least, depending on how bad that something was mistreated.

You will need the purple gear (21 tooth).

You can order them from CLICK HERE if you don't already have a source.

As far as a link left behind? please clarify?

I posted this originally in the "General Tech" section. I went to go find it again, later on....and it completely disappeared somewhere in "Drivetrain", with no "Thread moved" link in the General Tech section. I look everywhere, even checking my subscribed threads....other than my being able to see the thread I created, it won't show up when I try to find it via the regular. So all I see, in the "Drivetrain" section, is an index of links to various other Drivetrain sub rooms....and this thread nowhere to be found. There is nothing showing you to scroll down to see threads in the generic "drivetrain" section, and I only discovered that there are actual threads down there, by accident, after I bumped the scroller wheel on my mouse. I have been on various message boards for over 10 years, and this is only one I can recall that had a generic 'thread' area on an index page.

I am a moderator on a Mustang board, and if I need to move something posted in the wrong area, I always leave a link behind, nothing drastic, it's just my policy. I am not complaining, I was just getting a little frustrated at not being able to find it, without going through my user control panel.

Concerning the purple 21-tooth; this is the correct one for the AOD? I am stuck on T-5-nese, which usually requires the 23-tooth unit for those gears....I am 1/4 mile away from a Ford dealer, the purple gear is available from them?

Trust me, I have 3.73's in my car with a AOD and the purple gear and thanks to the New Jersey state police I know it's accurate.

Also those speed displays at the toll are a good calibration method.

One question. Are these gears going into a TL carrier? If not than be sure to get that first as you will hate the 3.73's with a 1 legger.

Just checking. Before I was a user on these boards I pulled my 3.27 open in favor of some 3.73's open and it was the worse thing I ever did to the car.

Totally agree. I just swapped over to 3.73's and a traction lock.

Even when i had 3.27's in an open carrier with PI cam/intake, xcal, exhaust this thing barely moved from a dig. The rear end would step out ridiculously easy and as stated before wouldn't grab traction worth a crap. Now however with the traction lock this thing launches MUCH harder. The rear end still steps out quite a bit but it's more controllable.

I hope it launchs better.I am still running an open diff.Working on getting a track lok from rbrown.

I had a TL sent from another member here that I got screwed on.(silverbullitt)He sent it to me destoryed!

Now I have a 3500 stall coming from Alan and I am thinking of running the open diff for a few days and then swaping in a TL just to see the difference.I predict a fun time.

Oooo. You must really hate your TIRE to run an open diff with the new stall. HAHA!

Let us know how that 3500 stall is, i would like to upgrade my stall converter sometime soon as well... I still hate myself for not putting in a different converter when i put my new tranny in.

If the trac lock from Rbrown falls through, the FRPP 28 Spline traction lock carriers now work with the IRS cars. I got mine from summit for $200 and some change. The FRPP is what i used and i'm so far happy with it.

Task finally completed. I upgraded the trac-lok with 8 frictions instead of 6, and added a new f150 spring....even after letting the friction discs soak for a while, the rear end chattered a bit in even the slightest corner until I drove it around the neighborhood for about 20 minutes. Acceleration? I also added a 1994 70mm MAF while I was at it...there are some misfire issues (old MSD cap and motorsport wires), but definitely an improvement.
