how much longer till.......*pow* nottin

earlier today in a span of only 15 mins my trans slipped 4 times. that to me seems to alot for a trans to slip in that short of a time. i checked the fluid bout a week ago andit wasd fine so it should still be fine. im not leaking any fluid, so im not sure whats goin on. im sure this has been discussed, but i couldnt find anything to help me out. ive found anouther 94 4r70w trans with 70,000 miles on it. if i get that trans what else should i grab? grabing the engine would be nice, but mine is running fine so wouldnt need to do that.

dirtydog converters are good from what i hear....id you are going to change out the trans get a 98 or newer 4r70w or buy a built trans from somebody like lonnie at blueovalchips.....but before you do that try a fluid filter swap with mercon v and a new filter and clean the magnet in the trns...

13 quarts, 14 if you have an aftermarket cooler installed (which is recommended btw).

Earl is a huge believer in the change fluid and filter fix after I fixed his old car that way. Fresh mercon v is great stuff for these trannys. Preventative maintenance is a must on these cars.

my trans has developed a leak...shifts fine but I have to watch the level like crazy and it runs hot...gonna do a flush/filter/add a cooler and I think it's a leaking line or something because it seems like it's leaking up by the radiator....it's always something...how's the old bird doing anyway?

It's doing well. Still waiting on money before paint, but the pi heads, intake manifold, cams, headers, and other goodies are all set aside waiting to go on.

I feel the same way. My trans had a chattering when I put it in drive or reverse and it would slip some after the 3rd gear change when warm(fluid and filter had about 55K on it). Drained all the fluid and tq converter, replaced the filter and put in Mercon V and the trans is very nice now. Maintenance is most definately the key here.

headers? what headers? what brand? that's something I'd really like to do on this one when I do the 2.5 true dual / x pipe exhaust...is it still muffler-less? If so, you gonna add mufflers to it? I'm thinking of doing dynomax racebullits on my next true dual setup...for the 96 oh, and the 96 just might have a set of ported worked over PI heads coming it's way

Sounds like the car ran great full of fluid. Now you discover it's been leaking. Makes sense to me it leaked until it's low enough not to shift right.

1) Go to one of those high-pressure car washes, spray degreaser around engine, tranny, under car, etc.

2) Rinse with hi-pressure water until clean.

3) Drive home.

4) Look where fresh leak is coming from.

5) Repair leak.

6) Enjoy!
