a4ld Transmission

I have a question about the Turbo Coupe automatic transmission. Are the 88's automatics A4LD's, and are they different from the A4LD's in the 90 2.3 Mustangs? There is a tc in the local junkyard with one. Also, will the Turbo Coupe valve cover fit a regular 2.3L engine?

Welcome aboard.
Yes the autos in '88's are A4LD's. I thought all the factory turbo Mustangs were 5 speed manual. If not, I would think they used the same tranny as the Turbo Coupes but I don't know for sure. Yes, the valve cover is interchangeable with the n/a 2.3.

Derek,

Thanks for the response. The 2.3 Mustang I have is N/A. Didn't mean to confuse you. I bought the car in pieces with half a transmission. After a couple months of trying to get the other half from the previous owner, I decided just to get another one. The TC in the junkyard seems like it was in good shape. If I had seen this car before it made it's way to the junkyard, I would have bought it.

I picked up the trans from the junkyard, but couldn't figure out how the converter comes off. How do I access the bolts?

The converter is not bolted to the transmission. It should just slide out. It is bolted to the flywheel which shouldn't be there if you only bought the transmission.

The trans did just slide out, but I couldn't see where to access the tc bolts.
