AOD Tranny

yes im new here and was wanting a little advice about some shift kits for the aod tranny in my 94 thunderbird 4.6 v8 what would be the cheapest way and what parts do i need; also i was wanting to put in a 5 speed but ive heard it was a pain in the neck to do if there is any advice on a 5 speed to put in these cars witch would be the better option to go with.

Thanks and any advice would be helpful plus im not looking to put 15000 into the car its a ford thunderbird all im wanting is just a little bit more power to the rear wheels plus a little smoother shifting also im wanting to get all the parts i can before i go tearing into the motor for the real power.

You don't have an AOD, you have a 4R70w, and you want the J-mod, which is endlessly covered in the tech articles and drivetrain forum.

+1 It is the 4R70W which is just an electronically controlled AOD, but the j-mod is the best and cheapest mod you can do to it!

Trust us, you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference it makes and the way your car drives. It was feel like a new transmission and the car will shift more like a sports car. You'll love it!

Here are a couple of links with what it is and how to do it. If it's too technical, check out the experts here kits mentioned prior. They will also help you to install the kits.

This link describes your transmission (by one of the original designers):

This link describes the "j-mod" install by a member here:

Good Luck! And Welcome to TCCoA!
